Yeah. I experimented with porting my 3D remake from GMS1 to GMS2. But it was giving me PTSD flashbacks to when I ported it from GM8 to GMS1, and would only delay the full game release even further. Ugh. So I decided to stick with GMS1. And in all honesty, I think at this point it would be wiser to port such a 3D game to a completely different engine, if I were to do so.

However, your tools have already proven to be invaluable to me. Especially while working with older GM versions. So I'm eternally grateful for everything you've done already and find it amazing this thing even supports GMS1 at all. Ha! So only add this support if you want to. I know it's an edge case and I can live without it.

Wishing you the best, you absolute legend! 😁

Strange. I came here to post about this very issue with the Mar 5, 2024 version ("Rooms" was checked). But this was supposedly fixed 4 years ago?! Could this be because I'm using GM:S 1.4? It would also be very nice to be able to browse and edit room creation code too, which seems like an easy and logical addition if you can already search and replace stuff.

Totally agree! Mine and most other's faith in any engine company has been shattered thanks to Unity. So I'll be using and supporting open source engines as much as possible now, which is ultimately a good thing. Thanks for your sacrifice, Unity. 😜

So I'll be sticking with GameMaker Studio 1 for now (as it's an abandon product with no connected services) and only ever use Studio 2 if I want to release on console.

Oh boy. These comments about GameMaker and Unity's payment schemes aged well...😅

For once in my life, being slow was actually helpful. Ha! Because GameMaker ain't seem so bad now, and Godot and/or custom engines are kind of looking very attractive to me now...

Slow but surely! Sorry, I'm most active on Discord these days, but I'll try to post another progress report here and on Steam early next year.

Main highlights: Ammo will now take up inventory space, but you'll also get a bigger inventory. Also implemented a greatly improved map generation system for the next (final?) RSR patch.

Thanks for your interest and wanting to support the original dev ❤️. Unfortunately the game isn't available in all regions, so I created a workaround for just that situation.

Open %localappdata%\Rogue_Shooter_Redux\settings.json in a text editor and change "demo_mode" value from true to false, then save the file and restart the game.

At least with Unity (my current main engine) they only charge you if your rich. But the completely free and open source Godot is looking better and better to me each day. 🙂

Actually, it was abandon years before the subscription model happened in 2014 and was created in the ancient GameMaker 8.1. Redux is using GameMaker Studio 1.4, as I got it on sale and was never interested in GameMaker Studio 2.

Thanks! 😁

Unfortunately yes, as that's what the original game was created with. However, I've managed to improve performance greatly in the redux, including adding an adjustable framerate cap (original game was locked to 30!).

There still seems to be some wonkiness here and there that I'm still trying to iron out, but I'm currently working on the next major update, which should further improve the game. 🤞

Thanks. Hoping to get the full release out early next year! 🤞

Yeah, lots of junk on Steam nowadays. But with support from kind people like you, it's still possible to rise above all that noise. So here's hoping you also like the new original game I'm currently developing for Steam. 🙂

This file is just used to verify ownership of the original game. It's not actually required to run the redux.

I did this because I didn't feel comfortable just giving away the whole remake for free, when it includes assets from the original game, which is still being sold.

Hello there!

Unfortunately, you have to manually transfer a file over from the original to the redux app data folder to unlock the full version. Exact steps are explained in the Steam forums.  I looked into automating this process for users, but I couldn't find a workable solution. 😞

I'll see what I can do about letting the player adjust brightness, since I know this can be an issue in many games.

You probably entered a floor with low power. These are special random floors with lower visibility. Finding the torch/flashlight item can help mitigate this. You can also find floors with poisonous gas and radar interference too.

The holiday stuff is only active through the month of December. However, I plan to add a "humbug" mode in the future to disable it all. For now you can disable the Christmas music by deleting/moving/renaming the "xmas" music folder. Or disable all holiday cheer by manually changing your system clock.

Thank you! Much of the credit here goes to the original developer though. I'm just trying to improve upon the design some in the redux version.

If you cannot find the full version on Steam then that means it's unavailable in your region, sorry! Original developer has vanished so no way to fix this. But the Steam demo should also work due to a tiny oversight. Just don't tell anybody! 😉

How can you play this? I can't find a download link on the game page!

Yay it works now! Thanks for re-uploading it. Neat game you got there. The music reminds me of "A Bugs Life" for PS1 :)

Fun little game! Love the choices you put in there :)

Does it have to be an install? I'd really prefer just an exe or zip. There's also a bug that cause the screen to become scrambled. At least I think it's a bug?

I can't open the zip for windows. Downloaded size looks correct, but 7zip says it cant open it. Maybe it didn't get uploaded completely?

Hmm... I can run the fixed version of your game, but input (keyboard & mouse) seems to be unresponsive at the main menu, so I can't start the game.

That was pretty great. Simple but fun. Nice work. Impressive work for a newbie :)
