I’ve been working for a little bit on my own system set in a “broken future” world. Currently I am doing play testing to ensure that everything works and is fun, and I plan to upload an early version soon.

Sifters of an Ashen World uses a combination dice pool method, where what you are doing and how you do it determine the dice you roll. It is nearly completely player facing (except for some mechanical aspects and significant foes), which contributes to its aim of quick, efficient play. The completed rule set will include the basic rules along with additional mechanics for added crunch, item creation and enemy creation along with sufficient examples of both. There will also be some light setting for those who wish to use the default world.

I’m truly excited to put this out there, and especially to hear people’s feedback as they play.

That sounds like an interesting idea, and once I’m satisfied with the spells and have them posted I’ll give it some thought.

I will say that one of my favorite things about Heroic Tales is its classless nature, so I would keep the classes as mostly flavor with maybe a small perk. I much prefer that a player defines their character through style of play and chosen skills than a single selection at character creation.

But I will certainly see what I can do.

I did get your response. Very cool idea you’re working on, and I’m interested to see what you think.

Thanks, I just sent you a link to the Google document.

That is certainly true: the system doesn't get in the way at all of house rules, which is yet another thing to love about it.

Thanks so much for the info, I'll get right on it. I did forget to ask which font sizes you used.

I'd be more than happy to share the appendices; I'm getting a google document ready, what is the best way to share with you?

Plus it would allow for a magic item to give the benefit of casting magic only ever depleting 1 magic point. This might make it very exciting to find such an item.

I must admit that I far prefer the higher effort spells costing more magic points. It just seems to make more sense in the context of putting forth more effort to do something more significant. Of course the roll is harder to cast it in this iteration which also makes it more effort, but since you don't always end up loosing magic points, the risk of it exhausting the caster more and more to do more powerful magic feels right.

Would it be possible to ask which font you used for the rulebook? I am compiling my own collection of appendices (including a bestiary, magic item list, condition list, and skill list) which I would like to print out along with the rules for my own use. In the interest of consistency in appearance, I'd love for it to match as much as possible.

I would like to thank you very much for this system. It's an incredible balance of simplicity and crunch while also hitting the sweet spots for me: non-class based, skill customization, and d6.
