This is very cool! So elegant.

Thanks for asking. So tough to explain things clearly in 36 words, but I suppose that's the fun! The intention is that a result of 3 or higher on a d6 roll in the dice pool counts as a success, and that one player's attack successes would be cancelled by the opponent's defense successes. An example makes it clearer but I'll try to reword it to make more sense in the rules:

  • Players A and B both start with a 7d6 dice pool. A chooses 4d6 for attack and 3d6 for defense, while B uses only 2d6 for attack and 5d6 for defense.
  • Both players roll their attack pools:
    • A: [1, 2, 3, 6], B: [3, 5]
    • This shows two successes for A and two success for B
  • Both players roll their defense pools:
    • A: [2, 2, 3] Cleric: [1, 3, 3, 4, 5]
    • This shows one success for A and four successes for B
  • After cancelling the offsetting attack and defense successes, this yields one harm for A and none for B. The 1’s are lost, while the remaining dice are returned to the player's pools. As a result, they will both only have 6d6 to play with next round.
