So, this game isn't bad. But there is much to be improved on.

Improvements for future games (Gameplay):

- Make the game longer. This can be done by adding more rooms, or making the game harder. I feel it was too short.

- Keep difficulty balanced. Unless it's a narrative game (where you can't die until the very end or something), you don't want to make the game too easy. On the other hand, you don't want to make the game extremely hard for no reason (unless your game is too short and you need to extend playtime). Keep it balanced.

- Make the player feel immersed. This makes the game more scary (which I feel your game was lacking in) . This can easily be accomplished with ambient sounds and simple visuals (such as lights flickering, pipes dripping, etc.)

Improvements for future games (Technical Game Dev Things):

- The running footstep sounds had a delay when I stopped moving after running. The way I did footstep sounds was to have the object that has the footstep sounds on a loop, and I had it non-active when I stop moving & active when I start moving. That seemed to work for me anyways.

- The enemy AI was a little generic and didn't feel like the enemies described in the story. Especially in this setting, the AI doesn't work. I would do research on certain AI behaviors that you could implement depending on what you wanna do with your AI. Maybe make them have the ability to hear, investigate, that sort of thing. Though I do understand that you had a deadline for the game jam, so I won't judge too harshly.

Things I liked:

- The story was pretty interesting. If the game was longer, I would've loved to explore more of the lore throughout the gameplay.

- I enjoyed the stylistic choice. I'm not sure if it's inspired by Puppet Combo type games, or if you're just not a 3D modeler (I'm not either. The monster in my game is a cube, and I tried to work with that T_T), but I think it works for a game jam game. If this was a real game, I would maybe just add some post-processing, Film Grain, or something like that.

Other than that, the game wasn't bad. I'll drop a follow. Can't wait to see your game dev journey!!

This game was a little rushed, so sorry it wasn't the best. 😅

Thanks for playing the game though! I really appreciate it! I'm glad you liked it also. :D

I get that. I know technically, I had a month, but this game was originally for the Scream Jam, but unfortunately, I procrastinated, so I decided to submit to this jam instead. That's why it felt rushed, because it was. 😅

I'm glad you liked it though!!

The game was okay. I think some things could have been better, but overall, the game was alright.

It was a good game. I believe this game has potential!! Keep working on the game and finally release a full version!

This game was AMAZING. It's the BEST indie horror game on itch by far. The graphics were stunning, the controls were smooth (the video above shows that it was laggy, but it wasn't. I just messed up the recording), the sound design was surreal, and the atmosphere was insane. I have one complaint, which is the fact I had to essentially pause the game to retry after I died, but other than that, I have absolutely zero complaints. 10/10

PLEASE TEACH ME HOW TO MAKE GAMES. I have Unity, I have Visual Studio, I have almost everything. Please give me your wisdom so I can make absolutely amazing games like you do! :3

I absolutely loved this game. The premise is awesome, the graphics are clean and fit the game, the sound design is quality, the controls are smooth and responsive, and the gameplay is intuitive yet frightening. There are no real cons besides that the jumpscares didn't hit well and that it was a little easy. However, if you keep improving and keep working on the game, I believe this game could be amazing and maybe even sell a lot of copies. I give this game a 10/10!

This game was amazing. I sound design was quality / scary, the visuals were stunning, the atmosphere was scary, and the game missions were simple and easy to follow. There were a few cons, but nothing too major. 1. The UI was a little bland. What I would do personally is have the text a different font, and have the button component attached to the text. This way, the UI looks much cleaner. 2. I noticed that the environment was reusing assets. I would suggest to boost the atmosphere by making changes to some of the assets (like one of the cabinets having a different color, having debris on it, etc). But again, the game was amazing. I encourage you to keep making more games, and eventually make a full horror game on steam. I give this game a 9/10.

I feel you. The radio song does go hard.

I give this game a 5/10.

The good -

The gameplay was very solid and I love the way you craft the orders.

The audio was really nice and very spooky at times.

The bad -

The lag was extremely bad in this particular game. This could be my PC, however, I feel like a settings menu or something would be beneficial.

Some parts of the game were not executed the way you probably intended. The two main ones are the pop up ghost and the dead body. They didn't scare me as much as it should have because the details are unnoticeable unless you were in a specific spot when those things happened. For the pop up ghost, I would say make it so that the player opens the door, and then the ghost pops up, and make sure the player is right in front of the door and not to the side of the door. As for the dead body, I would say as soon as you walk into the room, make the player unable to move, and then pan the camera to the body. As soon as you reveal the dead body, you can move again and the camera is in it's original position. Or else players who don't see the body right away (like myself) won't understand why the scary music is playing.

The instructions are very unclear. Make sure to tell the player how to do things. Don't just say, "Clean up debris and get this place back together." Instead, say something like "Pick up the trash on the restaurant floor and near the dumpster to put in the trash can" or something like that.

I also made a video with this game in it. The gameplay footage of your game starts at 21 minutes and 34 seconds.

I give this game an 8/10.

The Good -

Instructions were very clear and I understood how to do tasks and when to do them.

The gameplay was easy and I feel as though the controls just work with the game.

The audio was surreal and I loved the all the sounds in the game from the knocking on the door, to the phone ringing in my right ear, and the jumpscare at the very end.

The Bad -

The game was a little on the shorter side, which isn't a BAD thing, however, I feel you could have done so much more with this game.

The concept is a little corny and unoriginal, however, since I know this game isn't a SERIOUS horror game, this point isn't a thing to truly worry about.

I also made a video with this game in it. The gameplay footage of your game starts at 15 minutes and 35 seconds.

(1 edit)

I give this game a 7/10.

The Good -

The atmosphere was amazing. I was very spooked. I especially like the Puppet Combo retro / found footage style to the game, as I feel it adds to the atmosphere a ton.

The gameplay was easy and once I learned the controls I never had a problem remembering which button to press in order to do a certain action.

The audio was fantastic in the sense that I was on the edge of my seat whenever the music started playing, or when I jumped out of my seat as soon as the jump scare hit.

The Bad -

Though the gameplay was good, the game doesn't tell you how to play. I was confused for a second on how to control the car for an example.

The English is very broken. There are a lot of grammatical errors which can decrease the amount of atmosphere in the game.

Instructions were clear, but the delivery on some elements of the game were not. When I was walking down the hiking trail, a text just appeared out of nowhere saying that I needed to examine the tent. To make this better, I would suggest pausing the character movement and panning the camera towards the tent, THEN show the text. After you're done showing the text, you pan the camera back to the original camera position, and enable to character to walk again.

I also made a video with this game in it. The gameplay footage of your games starts at 31 seconds.
