***WARNING SPOILERS***
Faceless is an RPG Maker I can say is worth experiencing. The game fascinated me since 2017 when the demo came out. Up until today, at this moment, I have completed all 3 endings and really have a lot of thoughts about Faceless.
First of all, the game uses music deliberately, logically, and wonderfully. I like the music in the climax and the gentle part, because either way, it is very attractive. Sometimes the sound effect is quite loud compared to other games, but I find it okay, because it makes the game more thrilling and suspenseful.
BUT
There are some things I don't understand about the connection between the Demo and the official version. I can ignore the art inconsistency between the two versions, but why didn't the team merge them together into one big final version? This brings a hole in player experience, when it's been too long since the demo was released and I had already forgotten some contents of the demo. I had to redownload + replay and i am quite annoyed about this problem.
The character cast of the game is extremely diverse and rich. Each character has their own characteristics, from graphics to personality. My favorite characters are Aya, Faceless and Silver. However, I see a few characters that really don't have much screen time or plot behind in this offical. Some of the characters I don't even remember their names and do not understand the purpose of their appearance. Maybe you meant to let them in here for the team's next games, but the truth is it's just confusing, at least I think so. The mechanism for breaking the 4th wall is not working properly, you should rethink that mechanism, really.
The script has clear highlights and dark spots. You guys prove that this is really a pure psychological horror game. I was very impressed with Ending 2 when Faceless lived in her "happy" world with Poring and Aya. The plot of the NPCs somehow has depth, but I am not impressed with the main character herself. The plot is quite straight with the type of character being hated by the whole world. The climax when the her father being killed is quite unreasonable, when the main character Chi solves the economic conflict but chooses to cause the crime. I feel that the plot and character psychology are well exploited but somewhat lacking in logic and reality. The detail of the cat saving the main character is no problem, but it is quite confusing when the cat really appear from nowhere, when there is no connection but suddenly saves the main character.
Some of the game's maps are very well designed, like the underwater map of Aya or the moon tree in Ending 1. The level design is fine, the puzzles are also very interesting. The perspective clock map in level 1 and the maze made me confused. The save game is reasonably calculated, but the choice when choosing between going with Aya or not does somewhat affect the amount of save crystals usage. When I'm with Aya, I'm protected and I finish the game real quick (maybe i can finish without save), while traveling alone makes me struggle and dies many times, uses more save crystals and leads to no save at the end of the game.
Overall, Faceless is a good game and I recommend everyone to give it a try. The experience of the game is not bad, sometimes things are quite confusing, but okay, everyone did their best. I hope the team will pay more attention to the script in the following games and answer the players' curiosity about NPCs in Faceless. With all respect, thank you KC.Aurigrids for doing your best with Faceless. I look forward to your next products, as well as a bright future for the RPG Maker Horror series.
Thank you all for reading and good night.
