Actually, Interea takes place during Adastra.

Thanks! Means a lot :D
(My Frenchy ass is satisfied lmao)
Well, TJ's route indeed remains a little scary, and you're right, less paranormal doesn't equal less scary (in fact, in most cases it means SCARY AS SHIT XD). But I guess I was so hyped and terrified before playing Echo, and I was expecting mind-blowing shit, and it's not what TJ's route gave me. If I hadn't played this route first, maybe it would have creeped me out more ahah
Flynn being the last totally makes sense.
I usually like to give another way to play (you do you, ofc x3):
1. TJ as it introduces the group, its traumas, and the tensions inside of it. It's also imo a good choice for the 1st route because it's not that creepy, there is no surreal.
2. Carl. Now that the group is introduced, I think it's time to play the route that has literally no connections to the other routes xD. His route focuses on him and his ancestor while being totally separated from the main storyline.
Carl's route is creepy, a little sad, but especially "WTFFFFF".
3. Leo. Leo's route is something different. It introduces new elements to the story (the Hysteria, the Hum, etc...) but they're not explained and therefore you're left to ponder things. Besides, Leo's route is also scary as shit.
4. Jenna. Now Jenna's route is not THAT scary (except for the dam scene that I LOVED). Jenna's route tells you a little bit more about the "elements" introduced in Leo's route (The Hysteria, the Hum, and... the Socketman ;P), allowing you to draw conclusions, but you're not quite sure.
5. Flynn. I think Flynn's route's motto could be "Mixing everything". Because it does. It mixes the group tension AND the terrifying elements, but most importantly, it reveals everything to you. It all comes to you in one, last, showing scene, in which you're left to cry, unable to do anything. Flynn's route combines extreme sadness, fright, and wtf-ness.
I don't know if I make much sense in this message tbh, explaining all this makes my English go crazy xD
Don't you think it's a better option to do this order?
- TJ first, it barely has supernatural, it's the most chill and is good for "beginners"
- Then Carl's because it's kinda "separated" from the rest of the story and has a good horror ladder.
- Then Leo's, probably the scariest, introducing new elements to the story, but just briefly
- Then Jenna's, telling you even more about these elements introduced in Leo's story (also the dam scene is so good)
- Then Flynn, because it's the most complex, scariest (Sydney's flashbakcs), saddest, most wtf, and mostly because the very end of the route is like a twist: Within a few lines, you understand everything about the story, the past, the *truth*.
It would be amazing to actually have a choice between being a good guy and being a bad guy. I'm expecting a good half of the story to take place with the Tigerii people, and maybe Caelan will develop some sort of sensitivity to magic and eventually will learn how to wield raw magic. Then, he could either save this world and bring peace, or burn cities to the ground and bring chaos
One of the best-written reviews I've ever seen here!
If you're looking for more Adastra, the writer began writing two new games: (Spoilers for those who haven't finished Adastra yet)
First you have Khemia: A sequel to Adastra happening 2.5 years after the Human's departure. In this game, you play as Scipio, a young wolf who's been chosen to go on a diplomatic mission alongside Amicus, Neferu, and some new characters (If you remember, there is a small scene at the end of Adastra in which Scipio tells Amicus the mission can begin). I'm guessing the story is going to focus on Neferu's relationship with his family, as well as on the political conflicts taking place on Khemia. And at last, I'm guessing the story is going to focus on Scipio x Neferu. "I'm guessing" because sadly, the writer suffered from a writer's block and is therefore incapable of working on the story right now. As a result of this block, the game is only 30 minutes long. Not more.
But! There's also another reason as to why the game's development is paused. And this reason is...
...Interea! Interea ("Meanwhile" in English) is a companion visual novel to Adastra, like some sort of spin-off, focusing of the Moon Tour's events (if you remember correctly, during Adastra, Amicus promises the Human he'll take him on a Moon Tour. Well, in the game, the events of this Tour are only summed up in a few lines. Vague descriptions of cities, etc...). Well here, the entire Interea game is about this Moon Tour. Be aware though that this game is still short and in development (maybe 1H long until you hit "To be continued...").
Hope I was able to help! :D
NB: If you want more EchoProject, they have two really big opuses: Adastra (and its universe, including Khemia and Interea) and Echo, a psychological horror Visual Novel, and if you love horror, I truly recommend it (and its universe, including The Smoke Room, Arches, Route 65, etc...)
Let's not forget someone was paid to draw these new sprites, so changing them would be a lack of respect to the one who did it, I don't really think The Echo Project would be pleased to hear someone published another version of the game as it belongs to them, especially with edited files. As Dakyn said, they probably changed it for a reason. I understand you must feel emotionally attached to the all sprites, I am too and I prefer the old ones as well, but things should remain controlled by The Echo Project's decision x)
Hi, French fellow! For my friend's comfort, I'm going to type in French, so English people, sorry, you won't understand a thing:
Well it's half a sequel and half a spin-off.
You do not play as the Human, so it is not a direct sequel and COULD be considered a spin-off. Thing is, the events taking place in Khemia are following the events taking place in Adastra (with a 2.5 years gap, but remember the last line of Adatrsa (spoiler): Scipio walking in the Throne room and warning Amicus about the Diplomacy Mission. What does Khemia begin with? Scipio going on the Diplomacy Mission).
Keep in mind however that both Interea (a companion novel to Adastra (spoiler) focusing on the Moon Tour the Human and Amicus go on after Cato's death (in Adastra, these events are merely briefed)) and Khemia are still under heavy development. Therefore they're short. Khemia's on hold since almost a year now; due to a writer's block and because the writer wants to focus on Interea rn
Hope I helped, have a good one mate
The game is not going to be updated for a little while. The project is currently on hold due to a lack of inspiration (so I've heard).
The writer is writing another game happening in the Adastra universe:
Adastra "Interea" (receives monthly updates)
Interea focuses on events that are only summed up in Adastra. Therefore, you'll have to play Adastra before playing Interea, or Khemia (Since Khemia's a sequel to Adastra).
You indeed have to play Adastra since Khemia's a sequel.
However, it doesn't matter what game you play after Adastra. Interea's a short story focusing on one point of Adastra (in the game, the events happening in Interea are summed up in a few lines). Khemia's a sequel happening a couple years after Adastra! ^^
It is official, yes, but no, it does not follow up with the Human. Here, you play 2.5 years after Adastra as a Wolf named Scipio, going to Khemia for... well, you gotta play the game ;P
This story will focus mainly on Neferu and his family/backstory.
I say "will' because the game's dev is currently on hold. The actual gameplay's 30min long.
The writers are focusing on another game that takes place during Adastra: "Interea"
