1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?
I'm Sal, otherwise known as Leaflens or "Salad" - a nickname from an autocorrected message that's stuck for years. I'm a 20 year old games art/design student who's definitely on the more artsy side.
2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?
This is my first time joining a jam! A previous MFGJ participant (mythridate) shared news of this jam, so I thought why not? I've been having a hard time at uni due to my health and have never been one to finish projects. I figured this is a great place to get back into creating again!
3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?
I've got a varied taste in games - from Animal Crossing and the original Harvest Moon games to God of War and the Yakuza series. I'm a big fan of character-focused/driven games and stories, like the Ace Attorney and Danganronpa series. Visual Novels, namely Ren'py games, probably take up most of my game library. I've wanted to make games ever since I first picked up a DS, but due to poor time management and my short attention span, they all remain as unfinished outlines and scattered lore documents on my desktop.
4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?
I've dabbled in many engines and none really stuck. My personal favourite is the Wolf RPG Editor despite the lack of English tutorials. I ended up reverse engineering some existing games which stuck more than following steps.
I've made a demo of a game I'm planning to complete called "One Way Trip", a survival RPG. It was an assignment for uni but I had loads of fun with it regardless. Maybe one day I'll release that demo to the public...
5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!
Farming simulator games and OCs! I've been making original characters for as long as I can remember. I've never been able to stick to comics or writing long enough to share my OCs in those ways. Farming games took up a lot of my time as a child, mostly the Harvest Moon and Rune Factory games. Not much has changed as I still play Stardew Valley regularly, haha.
6. What are your goals for this game jam?
Understanding time constraints. I'm a very ambitious perfectionist to the point I've failed multiple classes in my life due to not submitting things that weren't up to my standard. It took a year but I'm in a much better place now and I've learnt many things since then. I mostly just want to have fun, honestly!
Not as big but if I have time, I'll try to compose some BGM mysekf. I always feel a little bad for using other people's work, even if it's completely free to use. 8')
No matter what, I'll be happy with submitting something I put effort in, you know?
