We're glad to finally share the journey of Alentejo: Tinto's Law here! For those who don't know, this is a passion project born out of a love for retro gaming, the Game Boy, and a touch of Portuguese culture.

A Gundown Satiric Western, set in the 19th Century Iberian Penisula!

Under the scorching Iberian sun, a 19th-century European western emerges! Trains, outlaws, barrels, smuggling-welcome to 19th-century Alentejo, a land where the blazing sun and mysteries never fade away. In Alentejo: Tinto's Law, meet Gildo and help him gather his gang to challenge the authoritarian rule of Baron Tinto. Travel through various locations, explore caves and mines, cross the border into Spain, and defy Tinto and his oppressive laws!

This isn't just a western- it's a Iberian western, filled with cultural nods and a unique twist on the classic genre.

But you're probably wondering now... Why the Game Boy?

Because the classics never go out of style 😎 The Game Boy's simplicity is a perfect match for our vision: a game that feels timeless yet entirely new. And yes, it's playable on real Game Boy hardware, so dust off that old console! And for modern players, we've got browser and emulator-compatible versions too.

A Look Back

We were honored to showcase Alentejo: Tinto’s Law at DevGAMM Lisbon and Street Gaming Ourém, where we received an incredible reception. Visitors loved seeing a Game Boy game amidst a sea of next-gen titles, and it was inspiring to watch people engage with our unique take on the western genre.

Last but not least.. What the hell is Alentejo?

Well, for those who don't know and have read this far, Alentejo is the beautiful rural interior of Portugal filled with rolling plains, cork and olive trees, sleepy villages and empty roads. The region is known for its slower pace of life, but this is the only way to manage your day when the summertime temperature regularly exceeds 40ºC. The people of Alentejo, their iconic manners, and their famous Tinto are as much a part of its identity as the land itself.

The idea for Alentejo: Tinto’s Law started as a joke when some of us were reminiscing about an old Portuguese TV series called Alentejo Sem Lei ("Alentejo Without Law"). That conversation sparked the idea of a Portuguese western, and before we knew it, the project had taken on a life of its own.

We couldn’t think of a better setting for a Iberian western than Alentejo!

Description

Trivela is a 3D first-person exploration videogame about a young footballer who is hired by a Liga 3 team (3rd Portuguese Football League). A game that explores not just this young footballer's professional life but also his personal life, including his relationships with his family, friends, personal problems, and important decisions, among other things.

History

Trivela was born out of an academic project in February 2022. The major purpose of this project was to create a football game that went beyond sport, attempting to show what it's like to be a growing athlete in the most realistic way possible.
