First, I'd like to begin by saying it's gorgeous and I'm so excited to see an isekai villainess game! I think the music is quite nice, and the investigative aspect of the gameplay is an interesting touch I'd like to see more of, and I hope it becomes more complex. I can tell the devs worked hard on putting the demo together.
But it felt like I was having a stroke while reading the dialogue. I would know, I literally suffered one. I really hope the dialogue and writing improves, because I see a lot of potential in this game, but much like with my irl dating life, I've learned that potential does not equal actual quality lol. Since according to the kickstarter, the full game is not expected to release for a couple years, I think if the game devs are receptive and take time to listen to the community, this could turn out to be an amazing game! With visual novels, I think the most important aspect to focus on is not the visual spectacle, but the writing and the characterization, therefore, I feel if they tone down the over-the-top visual aspects (animation, zoom-ins, random expressions) and prioritize the writing, this could be really enjoyable.
I've seen other commentors touch on this, but as a bilingual person who speaks English as their second language, I understand that translation can be tricky. If the game was originally written in another language and then translated to English, and the writing's issues can partially be attributed to that, then as much as I sympathize, it's my personal opinion that before launching a kickstarter, the translation should have had a tighter quality control. When asking a community to invest their hard-earned money into a game, it seems a bit unprofessional not to ensure that key aspects are implemented as seamlessly as possible. Again, as I said above, I believe that writing is crucial to the visual novel medium as visual novels don't typically feature many other game mechanics. I think this was a case of misplaced prioritization, but again, I believe that given how this game will be developed over the course of the next couple years, it can absolutely turn into something wonderful.
tldr; fun concept, but writing is key
I can't put into words just how much I love this game. The writing is god-tier, and I'm completely obsessed. If anyone can recommend games with writing that is up to par with this I would greatly appreciate it. I wish there were more BSH content because this is such an under-rated game. Ray has a complexity and depth to him that makes you crave more. The themes in this work are incredibly compelling and the writer has mastered the art of subtlety, as you read on, everything comes together in a masterpiece. I can't emphasize enough just how good it is. Thank you so much ConcreteParasite for creating and sharing this with the world. It's changed my brain chemistry fr.
