I Seem to be rather stuck on the sixth level. I am not quite sure how to approach the problem and found a way to seemingly cheese the system but I believe this has resulted in some unfortunate mishap. I assume just having the second car on the second button is enough the keep the gate open but when I move the first car off of the first button the gate still re-seals itself causing the first car to crash.

First I would like to start off by saying thank you for you feedback and criticisms.

As far as the design and balance of the game go, you bring up a  lot of very valid points that I had hoped to fix. Unfortunately I ran out of time in the Jam before I could get to really tackling the game's difficulty curve and progression. (I submitted it early due to my sleeping schedule being poorly coordinated with the Jam such that the last 10 hours I would be either to tired to work or actively sleeping. Thus I wanted to get it in early to avoid missing the deadline). I will defiantly continue to work on the game to get in some of the features I missed, optimize the code, and balance it out so it really is possible to achieve the highest rank in the game.

As for the theme... yes... that is entirely what I was going for and don't let anyone tell you any differently!

But in all honesty I hadn't even thought of that, in truth as I was developing I realized I wasn't doing enough to really sell the idea that you were fighting machines which is what led me to implementing the hacking mechanic. (Though even with it the Hacking mechanic if anything pushed the game closer to a hacking themed shoot em up  in space than a war against machines.) I also tried to to really sell the idea in the lore through the In-game manual, but ultimately, I think my delivery on the theme was very weak and you are basically only fighting machines on "paper" because the lore text said so.

So far the game is great but I did notice a bug when I fell into a pit of spikes and only took one damage and then was allowed to sit there without taking any additional damage.

I found the bug on the level after you get the module that allows you to dash. I have found it easiest to recreate by dashing at the last second so you hit the wall of the far platform head on and than standing still. You should fall onto the spike, take one damage, and then fall down beneath it.

I have also noticed that on loading the level following getting the double jump, your module switched back to the dash. I was at first confused and wound testing a lot of the keys on my keyboard but I found the key to switch the module. I noticed the tutorial message for the key to change the module, however, came on the level following that.

I SWEAR I am not trying to do this on purpose but uh, I may have found another bug...

When you shrink I have occasionally had the timer end while I was in a small area and would get stuck in the wall. Usually that was't a huge issue since you could just renew and everything would be fine. This time when I renewed it I only got a little more stuck. The bug still corrected itself and shot me back out of the smaller area when the second shrink wore off though.

I am not 100% on if this is an intentional feature or not, but if you click on a coin multiple times in rapid succession it gives you additional coins. I've gotten up to 3 points worth of coins from a single coin. The same can be done to balloons as well for additional points.

Otherwise the game is pretty fun and unusually addicting, good job!

Strange, the bug doesn't seem to appear my builds of the game, can you tell me more about the operating system you are using?
