This was such a fun and exciting game, and very well made! Even though I have never been a fan of pixel art, the kind of details and love that go into creating the game assets and animation really help me see pixel art in a new light! You can really tell that the team has put a lot of effort and love into the game, because every single element is very well made, from the wind that goes through the characters’ hair and clothes to the little items that make up the puzzles in the game. I tend not to enjoy games and puzzles in visual novels, but the games were really, really fun, and designed in a way that is “gentle” on the players – they are challenging enough to make me feel entertained, but not so much that I feel like giving up on the story! The characters are all very lovable and reminiscent of the Freakaversity gang (but a much more toned-down and non-monster version)! Even though this is only a demo, the game has already got me hooked, and I cannot wait to see the rest of the story and how it develops.

The art, music, and sound effects all come together very nicely to create that 1990s teenage mystery genre vibe… and the kind of wholesomeness that is characteristic of stories from that era. The friendship and interaction between the characters definitely put a smile on my face! Even though they were facing a serious and possibly apocalyptic situation, the characters all manage to still maintain that joie de vivre and lightheartedness characteristic of the beloved characters from Freakaversity. Please try this game if you’re looking for a feel-good, light mystery story with fun interactive games and characters that will put a smile on your face!

Glad you found the other endings pleasant and enjoyed the less direct paths too! 😊 Thank you once more for your kind words and encouragement! I am truly happy to hear that you are witnessing the changes and improvements in my games! I don’t know how my future games will be, but making games and writing (and drawing) is a fun outlet for me, as I think making music is for you (and making games too I am sure)! 😁 Do share your online music portfolio too if you have one! I would love to listen to your music too. Haha, don’t worry about trying the other endings in OLG! As sad a story as it was, it was meant to be healing and a sort of closure… though maybe I need to work on making “feel good games” because my stories always end up seeming sadder/less pleasant than I had intended for them to be. :p I can’t wait to try your game “Second Impact” in a few days! I will need to use my other computer that runs on Windows because Unity games seem to work better downloaded for me!

Thank you so much for checking out Memories of Marin too, Mat!! 😁 I am so happy to hear that you liked it and enjoyed the experience of it! Yes, the project is on hold at the moment because two years after writing the story, I realise that I have changed, and I am not really in the space I was in back then, and like you’ve said, some of the themes that I wanted to explore were already explored in OLG. I am still thinking about how I want to approach the story because the original version of the game which actually was already halfway completed is a little heavy. I might revisit the project once more when I know how I want to proceed! Thank you once more for being so kind about my project! 😊 My next challenge is to try to make my own assets, since most of the assets I used in this game are from other people!

About the ending… SPOILERS! Don’t be too worried about which ending you get… this is actually the point of this story! 😆 It is not supposed to be a sad story! Promise! And it is definitely not like OLG! (Though TBH the version of the story in OLG that was published is actually the lighter version… since I did try to make it less depressing… 😅 Though perhaps to start off with OLG addresses some very heavy topics in itself… so it is not an easy experience to go through in any case.) One last super spoiler for this game… one person’s “Happy Ever After” may not be another’s “Happy Ever After”. But if you’ve gotten the ending you want, I agree, there’s no need to check out the other ones too unless you are not completely happy with it. 🌈

The game looks really interesting! I will definitely download it and check it out! 😊

You’re welcome Rads! Thank you for making this game! It definitely shows in the game how much fun you guys had making it! 😁

You’re so welcome Mat! :) Haha! That’s very cute and adorable of Phoebe! I am a little sad to hear that this is the end of the series… But hey, I didn’t think there was going to be a sequel! I just never realized how nice it would be to reconnect with characters from another game in this newer one. Good job again everyone! :) Your game was truly a fun and wholesome experience that brought a smile to my face!

Wow, I really loved the game! First of all, just like how Freakaversity was, it was such a fun experience! It was good to see the old gang back and being friends this time around! It is nice to see Casey fitting in with their friends and really embracing their monster identity. I don’t know if I was supposed to, but the principal was so funny when he gets angry that I kept choosing options that would anger him! 😅 The music, art, and voice acting are all amazing and come together very nicely with the story! (Good job everyone!) I have to say that having voice acting in this game really helps bring the characters to life, and I especially enjoyed seeing my favourite Freakaversity character Phoebe voiced… she is exactly like how I had imagined her to be! (And all the other characters too!)

Spoilers! The ending with the colours is a really nice touch! I had always thought that the monochrome art was a design choice and never thought that the world in which the story is set in is actually in shades of black and white! I think this really adds a layer of meaning to the message of the series... but poor Phoebe! I wonder if she is just not used to the change or if there is more to her character preferring a black and white world...?

Thank you for this wonderful story and game! 😊

Thanks for checking out the game again!! ☺️🌸 I was halfway through your game too! I can’t believe there is a sequel to Freakaversity! I remember I had so much fun reading it over Spooktober in 2022! I will let you know what I think too once I finish reading the story!

Thanks! I really appreciate your encouragement! 😊💖

Spoilers! Wow, you've actually gotten most of the important endings/good endings. Aside from Michael's “good" ending, the ones that are left are either similar to the ones you've got, or sadder endings. As for Michael's “good" ending, I would say it is only good in one way, but not a completely good ending, as in everyone is happy and well. TBH, the real “true" or “good" ending in Michael's arc is probably the one that you landed in on your first attempt!

The other probably more important ending that is missing from your list is one where the MC makes the choice to be completely independent.

Not sure how much spoilers you wanted, so I didn’t write too much here! But honestly, you’ve already explored the bulk of the story!

Hi Mat!! Thank you so much for checking out my game!! 😁 I am so happy to see that you liked it even though it is not your kind of genre! I am so happy too to hear that you liked the art... I did try working on improving my skills, and I am happy to hear that it shows! (Will keep working on it!!)

I got really tired right before the Spooktober deadline and just couldn't work on it anymore... I actually had completed the game, but the GUI was not completely done yet. My teammates were kind enough to be alright with us publishing this later, so I thought I might as well do more with the GUI and its design, since I'd have one more month to work on it! 😊 I am definitely happy to hear that you enjoyed the experience of the game. Which normal ending did you get? Thank you for checking out all the other endings too!! 😆 I hope to work on more games this year, as I should have a little more time and energy. But I do hope to finish polishing my old games as well!

I am so happy to hear you like the music in the game! 😊🎶 If you are interested, please check out the artists who created the music and their other works. They all have profiles on pixabay.com, where I downloaded their works, and you can find the names of the artists on the credits page at the end of the game. Alternately, I should have added information / links in the info section of each of the files, so you can access their profiles from there too! Thank you for checking out the game!!

Wow! Thank you so much for your review!! It means a lot to me, to be able to read about your experience of the game. I am really happy to hear that you enjoyed the game and the story, and that it was able to convey some of the deeper feelings that I tried to portray in the game. Really glad too that you enjoyed the side characters, because all of them are crucial elements of the story… and now that I am working on creating a second edition of the game, I actually have been thinking about adding side stories for these characters.

Thank you again for your detailed review and for checking out the game!! 😊💖

Wow you've created another VN! I just finished reading through it. I really like the atmosphere you've built up throughout the game... especially with the BGM and sounds! They managed to convey a deep sense of sadness and despair... and longing for the past. The end of the story really took me by surprise! Is the story a reference to a myth? I looked it up but I don't think I found the right references! I really like the art in the game as well... especially the backgrounds with the night sky and mountain scenery!

I certainly had fun with some of the detours I took in the story!! LOL! You guys really did a great job!!

I probably will not be joining any game jam soon because I want to finish up all my incomplete projects! >< Though I hope to see more of your VNs in the future!!

This was such a heart-warming story! I was a little wary with the choices I made but glad things turned out fine in the end! 😄 I loved all the characters in the game, especially Phoebe! She's such a good friend!! The plot of the story really drew me in and I didn't stop playing at all until I reached the end! I also really enjoyed the little twist at the end... I think it adds extra meaning to the story!

I loved the art, and the character design! The black and white aesthetics really matches the story.

I wish I was able to play your game during the game jam period... but something came up and I had to travel and did not have consistent wifi!

All in all, this was a really lovely game with a meaningful message... and was fun to read and play through! Along with the art I can almost imagine this as a picture book!

Thank you for your kind review! 😊💖 I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed the story and its setting!!

Thank you also for pointing out the language errors!!! Haha.. yes I used to study French a while ago but haven’t used it in a long time… OMG!! I need to practise again!! I will definitely correct them in the upcoming versions of the game! 😅

Just to add… Sister Agnes has a few different lines in the other route… if you ever do read it and find any errors, please let me know! I’d really appreciate your input! 😊✍🏻

Thank you for your review and your support! It means a lot to me! 😊💝

Thanks!! 😊💖

Thank you for your kind review and for checking out the game! 😊💖 I am really happy to hear that you enjoyed the experience!

I took a break and checked out your game! Wow, I have to say it was really really interesting. Your writing really drew me in even though I don't usually read stories with a medieval setting and I am quite unfamiliar with a lot of the terms and setting. But it was fun learning about the Eastern European landscape in the Middle Ages... this is definitely new for me! I really like the subtle BGM... it is a great accompaniment for the story without giving away too much of what's to come. I kind of went around in circles a little when I got to the part where I was supposed to explore the village, but I really appreciate how the choices change and they guide you back to where you are supposed to go. Are there different endings to Chapter 1? I got myself in trouble at the end! LOL!

One thing I would prefer though is having the option to rollback to a previous choice, and a history log for the VN so that I can go back and refer to details that came up before. But other than that I really like the game and the format that you've chosen! The hand-drawn illustrations really add to the experience!! I can't wait to see what eventually happens in the story!!!

I'll definitely do that! I took a look at your page just now and your VN looks fun!!! I might only be able to read it a little later though (last week of Oct) because something came up and I'll need to prepare for a trip!

Thanks for your kind review! 💖 I am happy to hear that you enjoyed the story! 😊 About the pixelated transitions... they are caused by lagging in the browser version of the game. I would recommend playing the downloaded version if you don't mind downloading the game into your computer! No pixelated transitions are used in the game, and in the downloaded version there will be no issues with delays in music and sound effects, which really gives you the full experience of the story!

Thank you again for checking out my game!!

I just finished playing the whole game! The story is really meaningful and I am glad it is not too scary! 😊 I had to turn off the music because it was a bit intense for me (I am just easily spooked, but for a game centred around ghosts I think it really sets the mood). I didn't find the mini games too difficult to understand, and I am glad we're always given pointers. I didn't look at what was inside the pool... were we supposed to? I just followed everyone's advice and did what the characters suggested. I tried once to go to the pool, but I was told to not go there... and I am now very curious what is in there... but I am not sure if I want to know... 😰

Thank you for checking out my game and for your kind review! 💖

This was such a fun game! Are we supposed to go inside the cafeteria though? I managed to prevent losing too much HP the second round! The doggie was so cute! 🥰 Almost had a heart attack when I saw its life points went down to the last heart!!

I built my game using Ren’Py, which is able to build a web version of the game. I saw that your game was built using Tyrano Builder… I am not familiar with that engine… but if they have that function you should be able to do that.

I wanted to play your game but I am not on Windows! 😣

I got killed by a stonefish first and then the anglerfish before I managed to date anyone!! Haha! I love mermaids and ocean themes! I love the ocean BG in the game and the effects you added to it! It was fun getting to know about the different kinds of marine creatures in the Australian waters... I didn't even know what an anglerfish was before!

😔 Yep... RIP to all the characters... But I think they will have much happier lives next time around!

Thanks for checking out the game!! 😊 I am happy you found William sweet!! 🥰 Haha! Yes... the MC had a hard time coming to terms with the fact that nothing of her old world was left... the good and the bad... that's why she kept running away from William!!
