Not entirely sure how yet, but getting a physical copy is a part of the plan!

Hey, I'm glad you like the game! I'm still actively working on Candy Quest, but I can't say for certain when the game will be complete. I did just release a new demo version though incase you missed it: https://maxbeforetheone.itch.io/candy-quest-demo-v3
Hey, thanks for the comment! This dev log you commented under isn't even the most recent one! But progress is coming along great and I'm expecting to release another demo soon and a new dev log would likely come with that. I'm hoping to be able to fully release the game sometime this year. You can check out my twitter for the most recent updates on Candy Quest though: https://x.com/MaxBeforeTheOne
Candy Quest is a Halloween-themed platformer for the Gameboy Color system made with GB Studio. This second demo is around a 40 minute playthrough of the game's first world, the Fall Forest. It contains four main levels, one bonus level, a boss fight, and three different ending art screens for you to achieve based on how much candy you've collected by the end.
You can play this second demo on it's itch page, or download the rom file to play on an emulator or flash cartridge.
- While I'm a fan of the music used for it, it'll likely get replaced with a new track in the future, along with most of the other songs since I'm just using free stuff at the moment.
- This is to prevent the player from flying over everything, although you can still do it in some of the slower-running areas which I can't really work around but I'm fine with.
- Updating the map visuals is on my to do list already, I will take note of this when I get to it.
- That's a great idea, the next build will also have an area to view all of your collected candy in the world in a menu.
- The next build will have new more polished level layouts, (I've already made them) that are more forgiving, but I'm still aiming for a bit more of a challenge than most games.
Thank you for the feedback, I'm glad you've enjoyed the demo! I can't wait to get the next one out because it'll be such a step up from this. (I find it to be pretty rough in comparison to the new current build lol.)
I agree with the tutorial stuff, a new simpler tutorial is literally the second thing on my to-do list. As for the controllable jump, I think I tried messing around with it a long time ago and it ended up interfering with other mechanics, but I'll definitely take another look at it. Thanks for checking it out!
If you're asking will the game be completed, I hope it will be in the future. I'm still making progress on it and have no plans on stopping. If you're asking if there's an estimated release date for the final game, I have no idea. Glad you enjoyed this first demo though, a second one is on it's way!
No expected date yet. I'm currently working on polishing up this first world and the game's overall mechanics which will be released in a new demo when done. Once the basics are fully complete I'll start chugging away at the other 3 worlds I plan on making. I haven't had a ton of time to work on Candy Quest as of late, but I'll be getting back into it really soon. Thanks for the kind words and asking!
Edit: I'll also likely make some sort of big update post soon with what my plans are and what's currently done/being worked on.
I just released the first demo for my WIP Gameboy game, Candy Quest!
You can try it out here: https://maxbeforetheone.itch.io/candy-quest-demo-v1
