Bought and played on Steam. The writing is very good! The main menu presents a bookcase where there are a selection of books - one starting book that is an introductory thing, and six character books. Each character book is a particular route and can be thought of as being a perspective of the overarching story. As you play through each route, the player gets a clearer picture of what's happening (and what has happened), even if the main character's knowledge is limited to whatever route they're in.

The story is compelling and the voice-acting, though minimal, really adds to it. The actors are very good at their roles. I can't wait to find out what comes next.

The interface is still a bit confusing, but much, much better than previous iterations. Like night and day. You can save whenever you want, but you only have one save file. As such, there is no save/load screen in the traditional sense. When you start/double click on a character book to open it, there is a screen (page) with a 'load' button and a 'chapter selection' button.

  • The load button will take you to the start page of the most recent chapter you've played (not the most recent chapter you've unlocked)
  • The chapter selection button will take you to a page where you can select any chapter you have previously unlocked through playing.

Once you've selected or loaded the chapter, there is the 'replay mode' toggle. This is how the game handles having no multiple saves/loads. You can play through the first time with the replay mode on or off. If the toggle is off, your answers/pathway will be captured and used for the next chapter. Turn replay mode on, and and your answers won't be captured and won't used for the next chapter.

There are symbols when choosing certain options that pop up in the upper left corner.

  • Wings with heart: romance
  • Wings with hands: friendship
  • Wings with crown: unknown, possible approval points

I do know that the 'crown' symbol is converted to either romance or friendship points upon player choice in late game as a 'tie breaker'. This isn't in game yet. This was posted on tumblr I believe.

Possible bug: if you're replaying and you have skip seen dialogue on, the choices in the choice menu flip between one another upon menu load. Weird.

I like that they have included Irish words and phrases but I do find it a bit disengaging. I kind of wish you could just get the translation by hovering over the underlined word, and then click for more information/pronunciation.

I wrote too much. The game is great. Try it out! $20 CAD.

I opted to purchase this (on Steam) even though it is early access because of the consistent development log you post here. I think this level of transparency is very important when you're asking people to spend money on an unknown entity, so please, keep it up! This game is one of the better written ones, and the artwork is wonderful. I am excited to see where it goes.

D: I completely missed it!

I think tutorial pop-ups for the main menu bookshelf would be great! For the character creator, I did all those - named the Éireannach, chose my pronouns, and clicked save. I remained on that screen. I tried a bunch of keys/clicks (I think right click worked) to get to the main menu. Maybe a 'Continue' or 'Finished' button near the 'Save' button on that screen would work?

Thank you for considering at-will saving! <3

I really like the game; the concept, the artwork, the story! I'm looking forward to seeing more it.

The menu screen is a bit confusing. When first getting past the splash screen, I was thrown into the character creator, but it wasn't immediately clear what to do when I was finished there. At first I didn't realize how to even get out of that screen. Then I didn't know what to click on once I was in the bookcase selection screen. I think that it would be beneficial to make the volume numbers on the spines bigger, or have it otherwise more obvious which book to click on to start. The rest of the interface could use more focus-states, in my opinion.

Thank you for keeping in the rollback option enabled. It's an accessibility issue for some and just a nice quality-of-life thing for others. In that vein, I don't quite understand why the option to remove at-will saving and loading was made. It's probably the most annoying thing for me, personally.

Just some thoughts. It's a beautiful game!

Played the demo on Steam and loved it! I do have a few questions though:

  1. Will the full version of the game have a history or log, where the player can look back on the story so far/leading up to their choice?
  2. Will there be a rollback feature for dialogue/choices (particularly if the history or log cannot be viewed)?
  3. Will there be a screen on the options panel or elsewhere that shows what keys do what? I hit enter a few times expecting to advance the text but found it didn't work. (I prefer using the keyboard to navigate).

Thanks!
