Hey everyone!
I’m excited to share an early look at Seasons of Solitude, a turn-based survival game with resource management mechanics set in a prehistoric world. I’m looking for feedback on the game’s concept, trailer, and mechanics to help refine it further.
About the Game
In Seasons of Solitude, you’ll journey through four distinct biomes—savanna, forest, swamp, and rocky highlands. Each area has unique resources, wildlife, and environmental challenges. To survive, you’ll need to adapt to the shifting conditions of each biome, from seasonal floods to the dry heat of summer.
Gameplay is turn-based, requiring careful planning and strategy. You’ll manage hunger, thirst, and stamina, craft essential tools, and prepare for seasonal events that reshape the landscape and change resource availability.
Game features
-
Turn-Based Survival: Every turn is a choice. You’ll need to plan each action, whether moving, gathering resources, or conserving energy. Each decision influences your path forward and ultimately determines how long you’ll survive.
-
Dynamic Biomes and Seasons: Explore four distinct biomes—the savanna, forest, swamp, and highlands—each with unique resources, risks, and changing weather. As seasons shift, expect challenges like heatwaves, floods, and harsh winter storms. Adapting your approach with each seasonal change is key.
-
Progression and Adaptation: As you progress, unlock tools and resources that help you face the increasing demands of each season. Experiment with different strategies and see how your choices impact your survival as conditions change.
-
Tile-Based Exploration: Each biome has tiles with specific purposes. Here’s how you’ll use them:
-
Water Tiles: Gather water and unique resources, like swamp fish or plants by streams.
-
Food Tiles: Hunt or forage with tools suited to the environment—tracking, trapping, or fishing, depending on the biome. Each season changes what’s available, adding variety.
-
Resource Tiles: Collect wood, stone, and medicinal plants, with chances of finding rare items or facing environmental obstacles. Improved tools make resource gathering more efficient.
-
Shelter Tiles: Set up your shelter to store supplies, craft tools, and process food and water.
-
-
Resource Management: You won’t survive by hoarding—you’ll need to balance hunger, thirst, and stamina with limited resources that spoil over time. Smart planning and rationing are essential to make the most of what you find.
-
Crafting and Shelter-Building: Craft tools to help you hunt, gather, and stay safe, and build a shelter that can withstand seasonal changes. Your shelter is more than just a place to rest; it’s where you process food, extend the life of resources, and craft essential items. Maintaining and upgrading it over time will be crucial as conditions grow harsher.
Seeking Feedback
Seasons of Solitude is still a work in progress, and some features are yet to be added and parts of the game are unrefined. I’d love early feedback from players who enjoy survival and strategy games. In particular, I’m interested in how the turn-based approach feels with the current mechanics and would also appreciate any thoughts on the trailer.
