Jump doesn't make me jump it just kind of shakes the screen and makes an error sound. is there a quick fix or am I goofed?

edit:I managed to save everyone and could definitely see myself playing again to get some small stuff that I ended up missing or to see if there were drastically different paths(goddamn that pulled tile, why does it plague my mind?), I absolutely love the music and the art styles, character design is adorable and I'd love to see a sequel/prequel if the gang ever feels up to it! I almost wish there was more to do in heaven but maybe the simplicity is part of it. Either way, this game is awesome and has some great messages, 10/10 still stands, hope all creators are doing well!

Every time i go to check on bathroom plants and come back, the living room plants are all ready to be harvested and watered once. It feels like a movie wife turning around in her chair when the husband comes home and i love it, though it does feel vaguely threatening.
