I think I hit the memory issue you're describing, the background for the room wouldn't load in. Only collision I found in the room were the walls. The visuals also never cleaned up, in a 3D game I'd describe it as a z-buffer error but only the player sprite and menu are available and any space they occupy on the screen isn't cleared if they move off that space or close the menu. Does this sound familiar?
