I personally like both modes. I've only been playing for a week or so, so I definitely have more to learn about pretty much everything. Story mode has been the best so far, the random scares shake things up for sure and it feels more like a GAME. But ambient mode is really nice for when I'm having a hard day and just want to relax. Don't have to worry about racing around to get anything done, really, or anything scaring me, but creepy stuff DOES still occasionally happen. (On day 1 of my ambiant run I got the empty base event, which was pretty cool.) but I can spend the day cleaning up the base then sit at the top of the drone tower and watch the sun set lol. I can see the fun in both of them.
