We've read your mind beforehand so we knew 😈
But on a serious note, we learned about the leaderboard idea from our previous work, and since then it has always linger in the back of our mind. We then decided to implement it in this game as it made perfect sense to do so!
Thank you for playing our game and leaving your feedback here <3
We appreciate you for giving us your time to play our games and even leaving a comment below!
Regarding this issue, we're currently working on this fix. Initially we planned to implement the keyboard to select power-ups feature but then there were some bugs happening that we couldn't figure out how to solve it in time. But... in our next update you can finally select the power-ups with the keyboard! (hooray!) Please stay tuned to our next update!
Again appreciate your feedbacks on our game, it's always valuable to us :)
Appreciate you trying out our game and taking your time to leave a comment here!
Having smooth movement as we feel is very important in these type of games, so we really prioritized on it.
This artstyle is called "vaporwave" which is relatively unseen in games, but it's quite popular online. We were determined to make this style work and this is the result!
Very cool and unique concept! I'm really liking the concept of this :) The slight fisheye and grain effect is also very cool hahaha
I'm not really a musically inclined person so I only played the first few easy levels. Here's some of my observations from the early levels I played:
-Maybe when the you nail down the correct rhythm, there'll be a short music that fits the rhythm played. This incentivizes the player to complete the level just to listen to the music when they completes the level!
-There's no indicator for when you failed the puzzle. Instead of just stopping there you could maybe add a distorted sound to indicate its the wrong rhythm, and some animation too for the box.
-The graphics could be more interesting, maybe using the musical staff as the platform or something, or even create your own little musical world to decorate up your game!
-Adding a reset notes button would be very helpful, especially in the late level where you have alot of notes to add.
Overall, really great idea :) Good work on the game!
Agree on the leaderboard, it really makes you want to challenge the top 10 players!
Thank you for your time on our game, glad to see it's fun enough to make you want to replay them not once or twice, but thrice in a row! We're very happy to hear this <3
The team is definitely a bunch of not only talented, but also cooperative and open-minded people. Personally I feel very happy to have the chance to work alongside them!
Once again, thank you so much on your feedback and your time to leave a comment!
Ahh, I understand perfectly well when there's a game for something niche hahaha
Thank you for your feedback, and sharing with us about your gameplay experience! This vaporwave style was a first for our team. It was pretty rough early on, thinking about how to create that "vaporwave" feeling in our art and music, while still blending into the gameplay. But we were pretty determined to make this style work, and we wouldn't want to half-ass it.
The on-screen score display is a good idea, we'll discuss about it internally! Thank you for the suggestion <3
Once again thank you for your time and all the best on your gameplay! I'd love to see you on the leaderboard.
Appreciate your feedback on our game! We found out there wasn't much of the games using vaporwave style, so we thought "why not?" We art team was pretty much excited to challenge ourselves on this new territory and brainstorming on how to make this style work. Your positive feedback is very valuable to us <3
Thank you for your feedback, and it warms our heart to see you enjoying our game :)
196 is certainly pretty good already, it also took me a lot of retries to reach that score haha
Regarding the dodging, did you tried to dodge twice in a row or something? Because it actually has a small cooldown on the dodging to prevent players from abusing it.
Many thanks for playing our game again <3
Nice clean graphics that suits the game. I feel like this would make a pretty nice mobile game to kill time!
Though I have the same opinion as one of the commenter below that it's little bit annoying to have to click on the block to type in the text. I feel like having the music be pure instrumental is better, as the vocals are kind of distracting me from my monkey brain to think up of words. The color is also a bit weird in that, sometimes the letters that are completely wrong is highlighted in orange instead of red. If I saw orange I would've thought that maybe the letter is correct but it's in the wrong order instead of not being completely used in the word.
Another thing to add is that maybe a further hint can be used like hangman, where it gives you some of the letters.
As for the reversal part, I struggle to see the reversal part. I feel like it's pretty straightforward to guess the word through the hint. I wonder what does the yellow button do, it doesn't seem to work.
Overall, a nice chill word game!
Good concept, I like how you used the famous "Kiki-Bouba" as your inspiration for this theme!
The movement is smooth and responsive. Big plus for having an instruction screen! I like how you can only possess enemies with lower health to switch sides.
-Though I feel like since this is a shooting intensive game, having players constantly having to click LMB to shoot doesn't feel good, I'd much prefer if I can hold my LMB to shoot.
-The recoil when you shoot feels annoying and it doesn't serve much purpose, and it confuses the players a lot when there's a lot going on in the screen. I often find myself not knowing where I am at the screen, or off screen.
-There's also no incentive for me to switch sides right now, from what I see as there's no penalties if I keep being on the same side killing the opposite side.
Overall, good job on the game! I wish your team all the best on your future endeavors.
Wow, we thank you for the detailed feedback and intensive playtesting on our game. We would like to congratulate you on your highscore in our game, woo-hoo!(yes we checked hehe)
1. Someone did mentioned about the tutorial issues too in the comments. We're working on solving this issue in the next update which shall be coming very soon! Stay tuned!
2. For the title screen, initially we were thinking to have it being an animated background but because of time constraint, we decided to go with static bg. I guess if we were to make it static, we would decide on a more fitting visual for the main menu to better reflect our game.
3. There was a mention about this too in the comments. Initially we wanted to add a red flash but was cancelled because of time constraint. We'll think about it in future updates.
4. I guess we were too cautious in trying to keep the general color scheme more consistent, as in we didn't want the UI to look too distracting from the gameplay. We thank you for your input in this though, we'll look into it further.
5. Good idea! We noticed that issue happening too when we did our playtest, but we didn't know how to fix it. Thank you for the suggestion.
6. I guess it's a matter of preference, but we wouldn't want to exclude you guys that didn't like it. We will add in an option to toggle the effects in the settings in the future!
7. Regarding the hitbox, we'll make it smaller to fit the bullet hell style game.
8. This is a technical issue that we didn't know how to fix it as it is out of our scope.
9. I guess if it works it works! hahaha
About the naming, honestly we didn't thought much of it, and it sounds cool and funny to us at the time. Most importantly we all agreed upon it :D
87 just means the date we started this project!
Regarding the player, it's a statue of David, which is very prominent in vaporwave aesthetics. In a way this makes him a main character of the whole vaporwave theme.
Again your feedbacks is really valuable to us. We really appreciate it! We hope that you will enjoy our new upcoming update too!
Glad to hear you enjoyed the game :)
This art style indeed feels random when you first look at it. It's an art style called 'vaporwave', where it combines 2d and 3d graphics to induce a surreal feeling into you. Adding onto the color it also feels kind of dream-like. If you like this aesthetic you can search for more online :D
Thank you for the compliment on the music too! I'm sure our composer would be very much over the moon hearing your compliment on it :)
Isn't it our dream to become a handsome Greek man?
On a serious note, this Greek statue bust is very iconic in this 'vaporwave' style aesthetic, so that's why we came up with the idea of making him the main character. Vaporwave is like a surreal style combining with the dream-like feel. It's like everything doesn't make sense in our dreams xD
Much appreciated for taking your time to try out our game!
Thank you very much for playing our game! <3
Glad that you're enjoying the style and the gameplay, I personally have a soft spot for the retro haha, and I'm glad the team were willing to work with this idea. This whole gameplay mechanic was thought up by our very talented and hardworking developers. The first day was rough, but luckily it all went pretty well at the end.
