i am the aforementioned friend and i was also crying while playing it. this game put me in an emotional rototiller and i came out as spaghetti. it's fantastic and gutting and beautiful. thanks for mangling my emotions 10/10 would ride again

Oh man, I'm so glad this exists! Your Submachine games had a profound effect on me and my sense of atmosphere as a teenager and I'm really happy to see that you and it are still around.

Oh, I remember this game! I played it a long time ago on some flash site or other (might have been armor games or something similar) and i really, really loved it. I'm so happy to see one of my favourite developers still around; your work really left a significant mark on me and I'm glad it's still accessible for others to get the same experiences I did.

Anyway I should do something productive with this comment, so: I highly recommend this game!! It's poignant and touching and just a really lovely little experience. I'm glad it's still around.

Thanks for playing, glad you liked it!

And oops, I didn't even think about that! I'll fix it in the next release.

I think the biggest thing I'd point out is the camera/viewport - when I was playing I noticed that it followed the player so closely I couldn't see enemies below me when I jumped. Maybe zoom it out a little or make sure you can see both enemies and player at once within the camera view. (The movement was nice, though! Otherwise, a very smooth camera.)

I also noticed a lot of jittering/switching sprites, which sometimes interfered with jumps and movement - you can prevent this with state machines, so my advice would be to do some research on those to avoid this popping up next time! It can really hurt any kind of precise movement, which you generally need in platformers.

This is a great game for your first jam (and especially starting late!) You even have a boss fight and everything, which is super cool!

Would you like some advice, or would you prefer me just to stick to compliments? Either way, this is a lovely little game - I especially liked the lighting. Drui is also very cute, I love his design!

Lovely game with a great sense of atmosphere! I really enjoyed it!

In the latest build, you can now press 1 to make the game screen fullscreen (pressing the escape key will shrink it to its original size). Let me know if that works for you.

Not at this moment, but I'll try to figure something out.

I definitely want to clean it up a little bit after the gamejam's over and add some more story context/dialogue so people don't have to rely on my descriptions to figure out what's going on, for sure! I did try sound effects but all i got were horrible buzzing noises so uh. That's something to figure out too.

Thanks for your feedback and your compliments!

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for your feedback! When I go back and revisit this and clean it up/expand it more, one of my first goals is definitely going to be modifying the camera.

Unfortunately the text thing is more of a side-effect of how I write dialogue (i prefer to parcel it out in small pieces box by box instead of larger blocks), but I'll see what I can do.

Ah, I'm sorry about that! It's a windows-only build since I don't have the Mac module, I forgot to flag the download appropriately.

And I haven't heard of that before, I'll be sure to check it out!

Oh, thanks! I'm really happy you enjoyed it!

It's now available as a .yyz file! If you need it in another format, I'll see what I can do (sorry, I've never exported source code from a game before).
