im sorry to hear you had to cut content and that the overall project failed I do hope learning on what happened and what caused the failure would help improve your experience for when capstone comes around. The game concept your group did was really cool I hope your group can go back to it and finish what needs to get done without the restraints of deadlines!

I understand the feeling where all in engine work falling on one person it does really slow progress down and especially if you wait to get one thing done at a time that's why even though a group may have their roles I find it better to have roles overlap to allow multiple people to work on the same task if needed.

(1 edit)

I hope the boss fight music sounds good.  I don't have experience with FL studio but I have heard good things about it and good work with a fail-faster approach I have used that before for this project to  just get code to work and if I know it doesn't I could figure out why

Thats good to hear that after the playtest the game is going in a good direction it is good  to have the  project built more for a portfolio piece it is less of a headache that way especially when it comes to scope

wow making an interaction system is really cool and seeing how you describe it and from what I have seen is its key to the main gameplay of the game your group is making. Interaction systems are always fun to make until it breaks in someway good luck for the upcoming playtest

It's good to hear you are trying to use free assets online its usually the easiest way I found to get assets maybe used once or twice within a game so the team doesn't have to make them or well a solo developer has to make them. I used to do it a lot with the various projects I made in my previous course I have spent a lot of time on sites with free 3d models and even more trying to make them work for my project lol

Its awesome to hear that during your meeting to keep a clear vision on the core mechanics as well as the player controller as this can be a problem later on if this vision gets confused with the level designer where the player controller may end up not working so keeping it clear within meetings with what will be happening with that is very important

Hey Ethan,

Thats a good idea to have a consistent day during next semester where the team meets as it would add structure which could help with getting stuff done quicker or at least have everyone communicate properly.

That's smart to use a Kanban board to have your schedule and what projects need to be done all laid out. It certainly helps with a big project and allocates little tasks but to use it to schedule bigger projects I haven't thought of using it like that before

That's smart to have it all listed on your phone since people always look at it having it right in your face the whole time will definitely help. personally, for me I find it helps much better to rename a task list to a quest log it's a little change that just makes my brain become more motivated.

I understand how you feel about pitching a project that is over scope from what you said though you were able to figure out a way to downscope the game pitch with it still sounding like a fun game. Awesome job!

It would have been nice to not be restricted on this I agree as restricting to specific topics makes designing stuff personally hard for me. It would have been a lot of fun just for people to do whatever they wanted (in scope of course) and hearing what people come up with. Would be cool to hear the ideas you had in mind!

I agree when we had our presentation time reduced we were only able to talk about the big strokes of the game pitch and not able to into specific details. this could be good in a way as most people would be more interested in hearing the broad concept of it as specific details could be a bit much sometimes. I guess that's why elevator pitches are important.

I love the topic and how relevant it is as wealth inequality is a big issue. You definitely did some good research on this topic it does look like from what you looked into there may be a good amount of equations that will happen if you go a more number route for your proposal so I hope that it will turn out good. I am excited to see the pitch that will come from this topic.

Glad to see someone else doing social media. The topic you picked about social media is interesting as it's sort of a relatively new thing a lot of studies are still happening with the psychological effect of being addicted to it. The proposal you have sounds interesting as using someone else's power for yourself but adding the concept where you cant overuse it could provide a good balance. great idea!

I like the topic you chose to research. The results are interesting with how carbon dioxide isn't the sole contributor to climate change. The proposal you have sounds like it could be a very in-depth game while having a relatively simple concept. I am excited to see what's to come.

Thank you so much for playing my game some updates will be on their way in the coming weeks!
