For me it was the other way around.. I started with black outlines and I was dissatisfied and then spent most of my time trying to learn be able to do without them. Although they seem great for pico so far.

Yeah same, and what ThatTomHall said, reminds me of Ecco... even though I never played this game. I just think I remember it has kid of crazy story though..
I didn't know pico games can have such deep messages. I hope the black stuff towards the end is the oil spill and that orb thing is a drill. It really makes you reflect on what we do to the oceans. Also all the ungrateful fish that oppose you while you are trying to save their homes.. it strikes too close home. Very sad game with very bright and cherishing colours.
Also I love the arena stages and absolutely love the sound they make when they die.. I should probably mention it during my next session.. oh well..
Did I also mention that I really liked this game? No? Oh well...
Um.. could you tell me how do you render the grass? From game dev perspective, what technique are you using, is it a procedurally copy+paste model or is it just a math function (like shader) or maybe something else? Also what game engine are you using? I guess UE4?
I only knew how to do it with model but that seems like a ton of mesh... it should kill performance on any PC but your video is very smooth.. so I guess it's some other technique? But I have no idea how to do it.
This is kind of style I had in my head for a while but I never could get it done. I would really appreciate your response. In any case I hope you don't mind me copying it, I doubt I will publish it anyway...
