This game is still largely unfinished, but here’s the design statement:

Creature Training, Inc. is a top-down shooter where you have to navigate through several screen-sized levels, shooting and punching enemy monsters and joining together with pieces of the monsters that you defeat. Need a gun? Punch a robot and you can attach its gun to your body, but only if you have room!

You play as a new creation in a deep, dark laboratory, a la Frankenstein, and you are surrounded by monsters coming to tear you apart. Defeat them with punches and dashes, take their organs, and join them together with your chest cavity to use their abilities and become the best creature for whatever you’re up against, whether it’s obstacles, enemies of different types, or maze-like passages.

This game drew inspiration from the satisfaction of the crafting mechanic in Minecraft, and took Enter The Gungeon, Carrion, and The Binding of Isaac as inspiration for the gameplay and aesthetics.

Our team plans on continuing to develop this project into a working prototype.

Hey folks! I've dabbled in game development before, taking summer courses as a kid and making a few small hobby projects here and there, but I've never finished anything that could be called a game, and I'm trying to fix that. Problem is, I've been in web application development for so long, most of the tools I was familiar with are outdated at this point.

What are people using now for spritework, graphics editing, audio, animation, process management, etc.? Do you have any tips or ideas on how to get started, stay organized, and complete projects? What is the general process for going from design to idea in only a couple of days?

I'm also autistic and have ADD, and it can make long-haul work sessions really difficult if I don't have a clear plan laid out in front of me; does anyone have advice on any of that? I'm trying to get to the point where I can participate in the next GMTK Game Jam, and I'm really just looking for advice on where to start.

Thanks in advance!
