The idea was that the creature trapped inside the box eats away at your sanity and tries to compel you to open the box and release it. I didn't really explain it, but I think my idea was that the uncle was trying to mail the box somewhere safe, but the creature tricked him into sending it to his nephew instead.
As for what happens after opening the box, the creature escapes and fully takes over the nephews mind. I had intended to make a more fleshed out sequel where you play as the uncle who returns to construct a new box and trap the creature again, but I got a new job shortly after making this and haven't had nearly as much downtime. Maybe it will happen someday.
"I am on observation duty" may have come out three years ago, but the UI would have been bad 3 years ago. These games aren't using the kind of graphics that are affected by 3 years of technical progress. This game just has better graphic design on it's UI layout and and camera animations. These are things that were possible and common 3 years ago. "I am on observation duty" is clearly a developers early game and it just wasn't as polished as this one was. No reason to get upset.
Hi, I'm very happy to hear you enjoyed the game! I do have outlines for more puzzle games similar to this one written up, and it was a fun project so I would love to make more of them. It really just comes down to how busy work is and how burnt out I am in my free time. Hopefully I will get to do more soon, though!
Hey Dmitriy, I'm glad you enjoyed the game. Unfortunately because it is an HTML5 game, there isn't really a great way to offer it as a downloadable game. Even if I made the files available for download, if you try to run it locally it gives a bunch of errors in the browser and doesn't run properly. It need to be hosted on a server in order to run. Sorry, I hope that's not too disappointing.
I got all four candles! The one guarded by the five witches was HARD! They got into a pattern and it was very challenging to get out of the doorway without being obliterated.
One odd thing I did notice though, was sometimes I would go through a door on the right side of the room, and then end up coming out on the right side of the next room, same with top, left, and bottom. It was a little disorienting whenever it happened.
I love the parallax effect with all the rooftops and tree branches and such.Thumbs up, great job!
Nicely done! You really nailed the PS1 aesthetic while still making it comfortable to play and look at in 2019. I loved the environmental sound design and the little touches like the birds flying off in the distance when the first siren goes off, it really set a great mood. The monster was perfect, it was well designed, it was creepy and at the same time I just wanted to stare at it, and the emergency broadcast sounds and the screaming sounds it makes if you escape it were just great. I really enjoyed this, great work!
Hey, I wanted to thank you for playing my game in your video. It was an enjoyable watch for me, and I'm glad you had fun with it.
I've noticed a few people have had difficulty reading some of the writing on the box, it seems my monitor settings have the contrast pumped higher than average, so I'll have to keep that in mind in the future.
I'm glad you enjoyed the game, and thank you for the feedback. I was a little on the fence about that font for the letter as I was making the game, I will have to be more mindful of legibility in the future. Spamming clicks is always something I forget to test for in my projects, haha, I've had it come back to haunt me enough times you'd think I'd remember by now. I guess I need to put a post it on my monitor or something. I will look into fixing the issue.
Thank you again for your kind words.
Fullscreen support makes a lot of sense, I don't think I can do much to implement it in this game without remaking all of my assets, but I'm going to do some research and figure out how to add it to my framework so it will be present in future games.
I've heard similar complaints about the contrast of the zodiac symbols from some local friends who've checked out the game, so I don't think it's just you. I may have my monitor calibrated wrong because they were very visible to me, but it's definitely been an issue for others.
Thank you for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed the game, and I appreciate the feedback!
Ah, were you able to solve the chess puzzle by trial and error? I hadn't considered that. The other puzzles aren't decoration, you can open the eyes on the face to receive a key that will let you solve them. The other puzzles are meant to culminate in a diagram that shows you the shape to make on the chess board.
