As a fan of Asteroids, here’s few tips after playing several levels.
- Add some count-down sounds, like pole position.
- Shooting the object close or getting hit produces the same effects and sound. Change the sound per object and the ship.
- The upgrade system feels random when it pops up the first time.
- I would have a couple intro levels to teach the user what there is. For instance, I didn’t like the two-shooter and regretted the upgrade.
- Shake the screen when the ship gets hit.
- Maybe some objects can explode into smaller ones?
- An initial help screen with how to play.
