Hi! I‘m really intrigued by the looks of this game and I love the theme. I‘m considering buying the physical book simply to read through it (I‘m not sure yet if my group is interested in TTRPGs and if I can get a campaign going). I just have two quick questions. Is the game suited for just two people (either as a one on one with a GM or as a two player game without a GM somehow)? And are there any plans for translations to other languages (specifically german)? Thanks in advance and have a nice day!
Thanks for your detailed feedback, this means a lot to me! I am very happy that you generally seemed to enjoy the game. I also agree with pretty much all of your criticisms.
Adding some movement to the attacks is a great idea, I believe this could improve the game feel a lot (although this might be annoying when chopping trees, so maybe just the knight should have this).
Of course many more aspects of the game could be improved (as it is always the case). I would have loved to add button remapping and create a bigger island, but ultimately these things would have taken a lot of time and my focus towards the end was on actually finishing and publishing the game in a reasonable timeframe.
But this was certainly not my last game and I will definitely use my gained experience and all of the great feedback in my future projects!
Huge thanks for your incredibly kind words! I just watched your video and it was so special for me as a small developer to actually see you play my game and have a good time. It also helped me a lot with understanding which aspects work well and which aspects might be confusing and need some explaining.
Thank you so much for making your video and for showcasing small indie games in general! You have no idea how much this means to me (and I assume to many other indie developers)! :)
Thanks a lot for your feedback, I greatly appreciate it!
I agree that the Pawn should probably be able to use his tools in all directions, like the Knight and Archer (which can attack in 4 and 8 directions respectively). This was partly done to discourage fighting as a Pawn, as it is not their main use, whereas the Knight and the Archer are specialized - and should feel a lot better - in combat.
As for controls, interact and pick up already use the same key, just dropping resources uses a different one. This is mainly for the situation, where you would carry some resources and are near some other resources on the ground. In this situation you have both the option of picking up the additional resources or dropping the ones you are carrying.
But I can definitely see your point about the controls being a bit too complex for such a simple game.
Oh, that‘s really unfortunate. I know, that the browser version has some problems in Firefox, but it should generally still start at least. In other browsers (mainly Chrome and Edge), it worked without too many issues for me. I‘ve also had a couple of friends test it and it seemed to work for them without any problems. I‘m not an expert with these technical details, so I‘m not sure what these errors really mean or how to fix them unfortunately.
But still, thank you for your kind words, maybe you can get it to work somehow! And you are right, the programming part is a lot of (for me really fun) work, so I give myself credit for that, but I also find it important to give proper credit to the people creating the art and sound assets, which I don‘t make myself.
Good luck with your own game, I‘m sure to check it out, when it‘s released!
I really enjoyed this game! I believe the short playtime is perfect for a game like this, it keeps it from getting too frustrating, and it makes it possible to beat, even for someone who doesn't want to spend multiple hours.
Also the art style, sound design and music make this a really enjoyable experience, even after falling all the way down to the beginning.
