Had tons of fun working on this project over the last week. Honestly pushed myself much harder than I originally intended, but I'm very happy with the result. Normally my games tend to be cute and fairytale-like, so it was fun to explore darker territory for this one.
Excited to kick back, watch the livestream and see what everyone made!
Hey Riggy! Thanks for the playthrough, it's an honor. Always enjoy watching your streams. Thanks to your video, I was finally able to reproduce this bug and fix it.
So the main three fetch quests are meant to be done in any order, however when done in a particular order, the player is teleported to the map for the 3rd cutscene. But the bug causes them to be teleported to the incorrect location (hence getting stuck in the tile as was pointed out).
New game builds are up if you feel like retrying. Otherwise, cheers brother, see ya around 🤙.
Excited to say, just submitted my game 3 Days Till Harvest (playable in browser). Helluva month it's been! According to Steam, I've logged 73.6 hours making this game. With the additional 30 or so hours spent in making the 3D maps in blender, I reckon I've clocked around 100 total hours.
I'm stoked on how this turned out (albeit crunchy around the edges). Excited to hear feedback!
Cheers!
Painting with invisible tilesets is definitely an option for collisions. I've done that with a 2k3, since plugins aren't available. However, for this game since I'm using MV, I'm taking advantage of a collision map plugin which allows me to paint the collisions as a layer over the original map layer in Gimp, and then import that collision map into MV. I'm also using a pixel movement plugin that forgoes grid movement and allows precise movement in all directions, so it makes it easier for the user to navigate around the objects in the orthographic perspective.
Really digging your game as well. The art direction is 👌 and the story looks fun!
First week has gone well, really excited how my pre-rendered maps are turning out, although I have a hard cap at 2 hours a day, so there is so much polish I can't wait to add after the jam! But I guess this is why we do game jams right? To limit the scope and forgo all the little details that usually prevent us from finishing 😬
Here's the "Physician's cottage" I just wrapped up. Would love to add more clutter, but pretty happy with how it turned out with the time limit.
Also posted this video on reddit a few days ago showing a walkthrough of the village.

- GameDev Experience: I've completed three games, each an hour-longish, using rpg maker and have started many more! The three games I finished all started out as game jam games, which I then spent a couple months of polishing after the jams were completed. Recently, I've been into recreating games from the 32 bit era (PS1, Sega Saturn, etc) and have been using pre-rendered 3D backgrounds in my rpg maker games (check out my game The Alley!).
- Why are you here? Been feeling the itch to create a game lately, and I love the autumn/halloween season. I had previously designed a short adventure game that was intended to be completed in a couple months, but as I designed the game, the scope kept growing - more branching plotlines, multiple endings, side quests... etc. The project grew so big that even a year's time wouldn't have been enough to complete it, so I gave up before I even started.
With this game jam, I'll be taking another stab at the same game idea/story, but am stripping out all the extra stuff. Excited to restart this project with a fresh perspective and scope that is actually achievable within a month.
Look forward to meeting you all and trying your games 😀
Awesome, thanks for the feedback! I have ideas for expanding this into a fuller length rpg. This project was an (intentional) distraction from my main project. Basically an excuse to learn Blender. Once I've finished my main project, returning back to this and expanding it a larger game is definitely in the cards 😃
Hello! Checked out the demo after hearing your interview on RPG Maker Cola. Really sweet game. Love the early 2000s aesthetics (the era I feel most nostalgia for). Love the art, the charm of the characters, dialogue, music, really just everything. Combat is also straightforward and fun. Can't wait to see the full version released!
It's a really dumb mistake, but I mistook the deadline 7-22 , 12AM to mean 7-22 midnight, and I couldn't submit my game :'(
I'm seriously crushed, but it's all good, I'll live to make another game :)
But I had such a blast working on my game Chicken Run, and I really wanted to share it anyway, since it was made for this jam, and I think others will enjoy it and maybe even get some laughs (I mean, it's a 16bit jrpg where the hero is a chicken, come on!).
So even though I ended up not being able to submit my game, I just want to say thanks to this jam and everyone for giving me the opportunity to stretch myself, learn new things, and enjoy creating something fun.
See y'all at the next jam!
