So, let's say the game is being worked on by some kids and they couldn't accept the money (that's the situation I'm in) then what would happen? Would we not be allowed to participate, or something?

Its probably to make it more good and let you not worry about time constraints

I am interpreting it as my game is pixel art and it is basically a platformer like Mario but it doesn't have lives like Pizza Tower but there is a RetroMode (by retromode I mean the arcade styled lives mode) and a cheats menu to add to old school game type things such as the Konami code back when Gradius was the first to use it.
