Hi All,

When it comes to games I'm a hobbyist and when it comes to music I'm a professional. I 've been messing around in Unity/C# for about a year. My first upload to itch.io is Castle Moldvay, a rogue-like  interactive fiction game that attempts to simulate a late-70's mainframe experience. It's a work in progress and I'm looking for  feedback/testers.  In the meantime, I'm thinking of writing a simple arcade-style game to show off my music chops... My coding skills go way back to the 1990's when I used to work for a tech firm... I've been in music full time since about 2003.  I'm mostly known as a "rock guy."

When making games or games-related stuff I go as Vectory ...  when I'm doing music stuff, I'm just Dean.  If anyone is looking for a collaborator, don't hesitate to reach out!

”Could the rumours be true?” you wonder as you stumble upon a strange terminal connected to a massive antique mainframe in the dusty corners of a long-forgotten lab. "Good luck," you whisper, as you fire the ancient machine up. There is a strange buzzing sound, the smell of dust burning… suddenly the twin screens on the terminal come to life with a soft glow … “This is it!,” you say, “This is my ticket out of this crap department and to fame and fortune!”

Hello All,

I am looking for feedback on my first-ever upload to itch.io : Castle Moldvay (Alpha 1,1).  It's really hard to succinctly describe Castle Moldvay... It's like Bard's Tale meets Zork meets Rogue. It's a puzzle within a game that knows it's just a game!  To sum it up:

  • It's Roguelike in that every overland world, dungeon, city and village is procedurally generated. The game is turn-based, and brutal.
  • It's Zork-like in that it uses a natural-language parser as user input and responds with natural language.  Indeed, the very-minimalist retro-70s  graphics are "adjacent" to the game (both figuratively and literally).
  • It's Bard's-Tale-like in that you control a party of heroes with varying skills and abilities. Want new members in your party? Just ask an NPC to join (or "charm" a monster!)
  • It's meta

The game is currently unfinished but running and stable. The overarching quest has not yet been fully implemented (though rumours to abound) and there are many more creatures and items and characters to be added! In this current Alpha version,  the "victory condition" is to merely survive for 20 game-days... However, this current Alpha version is a test of the game as a unique and robust adventuring platform. So far over 24 monster types, 21 spells and 100s of items have been implemented. Every game presents literally hundreds of NPCs, villages, cities and dungeon halls to interact with.

I'm looking for testers....

How was your experience? What did you like about CM? What irks you about CM? Did anything weird or unexpected occur? Let me know!

Thanks!
