Thanks for letting us know. I guess you made it now?

Don't worry. We'll look at your curious game as well, of course :D

That's a good idea. If you prefer to use this Community thread, I'll make the thread sticky after you make one :D

Feel free to use for your IGMC project :D

The demo version / prototype is welcome, too :D

How we support the winners - financial support, hire people, etc - totally depends on the title. There's a lot of ways to "help".

We'll never request you to refund the winner prize anyway.

If you're looking for a publisher for your existing title, please contact games@degica.com :D

JUDGING CRITERIA

This year, we're looking to find the next big Indie Game. That means that we aren't focusing on complete, polished games. That doesn't mean you want to turn in something that is a mess of bugs, but it does mean that we want to see games that have plenty of room for expanding into full games. Because of this, we are judging all entries on the four following criteria, rated on a scale of 1-20.

Gameplay

The gameplay includes any part of the game that the player can interact with that gives feedback in the form of meaningfully different reactions from the game. This includes both the mechanisms used and their execution. You want a game that people want to play as much as they want to experience!

Presentation

The presentation of the game includes quality of the visual art, music, and sound effects used in the game, as well as how well they are used to convey the story and/or gameplay to the player. You want good writing, good music, and good art!

Engagement

The engagement of the game measures how well the game draws the judge in. How much the game makes the judge want to play more or experience more of the game. This can be due to a “fun factor” or some other method of hooking players in. You want to have a solid hook that keeps the players playing!

Potential

The potential of the game represents not what is in the game, but it’s potential for expanding into a full game. How would this game fare in the commercial landscape with additional material and polish? You want to make sure your game has somewhere to grow!

Bugs!

Since we aren't looking for completely finished and polished games, we expect the games to have some level of bugs and glitches. Bugs are hard to eliminate! As such, any bug that is not game ending will not result in a penalty to your score. A bug that makes the game unplayable in the first 10 minutes of gameplay will result in disqualification. A bug after the first 10 minutes will have to be judged solely on the merits of what the judge was able to play, with a -5 penalty to overall score.

Additionally, to reflect that these are games that are meant to be expanded and further polished, your highest score among Gameplay, Presentation, Engagement, and Potential will be doubled when added together for your final score.

CONTEST RULES

  1. Development on contest entries MUST be started after the beginning of the contest (October 29th, 2018). Commissions for the contest must also be started after the beginning of the contest. Pre-existing assets that were not created specifically for the contest are allowed.
  2. Games MUST be submitted by the deadline (Midnight PST, November, 29th 2018). NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED! Make sure not to submit last minute to avoid missing the deadline.
  3. Games MAY be developed using any engine.
  4. Game Length: Judges will only be required to evaluate a game for 1 HOUR if it passes the screening stage. Any game over 1 hour will be judged only on its first hour.
  5. You must have the right to use all software, resources, and tools involved in the creation of the game. Please make sure to accredit resource creators in a text file included with your game.
  6. There is no limit on the size of the development team. You can have one person or 10+ people. Keep in mind that prize winnings will only be awarded to the user that submits the game.
  7. Contest participants can be involved in UP TO TWO submissions. This means you could work on a solo project and collaborate with another team, collaborate on two teams, or even submit two solo projects. If a team uses your resources, but you were not directly involved in the development of the game, then it won't count towards the TWO game limit; same with commissions.
  8. All files required to play the game MUST be included in the download. This include RTP resources. If the game exe does not run because of missing files, it will be disqualified.
  9. No 18+ Content: This includes strong sexual themes and content, graphic nudity, or extreme portrayals of violence. If you're unsure, please follow ESRB guidelines: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entertainment_Software_Rating_Board
  10. Plagiarism and any other forms of CHEATING are grounds for disqualification. Let's make this a clean and fair competition for everyone!
  11. Games must be available in English, but you are welcome to include other translations (just make sure the default language is set to English).
  12. Your game submission must be able to run on Windows 7 and higher. You can include additional downloads for other platforms, but only the Windows version will be judged.
  13. Contest Judges have the right to penalize or disqualify a submission for reasons including, but not limited to, the violation of the above rules. Judges decisions are final.

PRIZE CONDITIONS & LEGAL

Prizes will be delivered electronically via the email associated with the user who submitted the game. Winners will be responsible for all taxes and fees associated with their prize package. If working on a team, please discuss how prize winnings will be split before winners are announced to avoid potential legal issues. The IGMC team is not responsible for splitting prize money.

No purchase necessary to participate in the contest. Must be at least 13 years of age to register and submit entries. Additional restrictions on age and nationality are subject to the contestant's local, state, and/or national laws.

Creators retain all rights to their respective works. The contest runners (Degica) reserve the right to promote the game on the appropriate websites, blogs, social media, etc. as outlined in the prize packages.

Degica reserves publishing rights for up to 3 years for games that win Degica’s Choice, People’s Choice, and/or YouTuber’s Choice.
