Here's our game! https://itch.io/jam/scream-jam-2024/rate/3047545

This is my second submitted jam game, and I couldn't have done it without my team; check it out! https://itch.io/jam/scream-jam-2024/rate/3047545

(guide in the discussion board if you get stuck)

wow i can't believe you guys would SPOIL the TWIST ENDING

In all seriousness, thanks for arranging this group! I had a ton of fun working on this project.

We've had talks of expanding the game in the future... no promises though ^^;

Thanks for playing!

(yelling to the background) yo astro!!! people like your writing!!!

Thanks for the kind words!

I almost don't believe it myself! Thanks for playing!

I think I spent 4-5 days working on just the computer mechanics... glad it paid off!

And you can thank our lovely artists - they did an amazing job!

Here's our game! Rate Unsaved Changes by VernalUmbrella, astrobowie, pikadaddies, MxMargarine for SCREAM JAM 2024 - itch.io

It's a computer desktop puzzle/mystery psychological horror game! Inspired by... too many things to list.

Our team worked incredibly hard on it - I hope you can fit it into the stream!

(I've also put up a solutions guide on the page if you get really stuck - we didn't have much time to balance the puzzles!)

(1 edit)

Hello! Thanks for trying our game.

We didn't get as much time as we'd have liked to tune the puzzles, so we recognize that some of them may be obtuse or unfair. Some players may also be more interested in focusing on the story.

While we strongly encourage you to try the puzzles yourself, we've created an answer key here. If you feel inclined to use it, it would be helpful for us if you stated which puzzle(s) you used it for. Thanks!

(ANSWERS BELOW, LAST SPOILER WARNING)

START.zip

Find the instructions in CREDITS.txt. Our initials spell out AMpv.

01.zip

W:L stands for Word:Letter. Reading the Lth letter of the Wth word from the only text file available, it spells RECALL.

02.zip

A file with instructions for computing a digital root is included. Applying a1z26 to the corrupted data in the chatlog yields a sum of 37, which compresses to a digital root of 1.

03.zip

The 'craven contact' is the email from Rickford Cravson. Add up all the numbers in that file (including the date numbers) to get 2133.

04.zip

The process log is running a shell, which you cover up with the NIGHTSHADE. The uncovered letters spell EUMEharvest.

05.zip

Find the smallest dollar amount: $23. Grabbing the 23th (rd?) word from the body of the plea (email) gives you the word STILL.

06.zip

juljournal has only sparse capitalization. Extract the capital letters to get REMORSE.

07.zip

Turning our attention back to the process log, it shows the date as 9/23/2078.

08.zip

You can find the final filename in the chat log: IMG-20780608.jpg.
