a note for the jam host, vientoverse is our studio account. we stuck to the rules and the 3 accounts listed on the game page are our individual ones

you are an angel for posting these photos! im gonna cry imagining if little me knew i would get to see name on a gameboy screen.
and yes, all of the photos used were AI-generated. then manually edited (color reduction, brightness/contrast) and indexed in Aseprite to the best of my abilities within the timeframe. i found it to be less tedious to source the images than using human photography, being able to generate them in a polaroid style and in a close enough aspect ratio i didn't need to worry about framing and cropping much. it was a really fun tool to use.
Thank you so much for recording and posting that! It was super helpful. I can see exactly what you mean regarding the font. To help combat it for now, I’ve removed the option to play fullscreen. Since the font is meant for a 160x144px screen it’s viewed best smaller than your screen size. I posted a dev log for the release and have a working list of fixes that include finding a new font and some typos I didn’t see before watching your video.
Some images do need reworking, I went pixel blind at some point. To guide visualization, the description of the scene comes before the photo is shown, as if there is text on the left page of a book and the picture on the right page. In the game description and other social media posts I discussed how the photos used were AI-generated, and streamed the process on twitch, which is why some images (like the peas) are very strange looking. You can view the original images on my github.
Is it a game? No, it’s mostly just reading and looking at pictures. Not sure if that breaks any rules but it was my favorite idea for the theme. I see you kinda got that during your reflection at the end. The gameplay scenes are a work in progress my teammate created and may not be expanded upon.
Funny enough, your “I don’t” response at the end scene was exactly the reaction I was hoping for. I feel like often that’s the attitude people have toward a statement like that because of our busy lives, and wanted to provide a narrative that you can find relatable moments in. Small events like making animals happy and resting throughout an otherwise uneventful day can add up and be more impactful than the stressors or things we lack, in the right circumstances. I imagine the protagonist does not have an ideal past and has only recently hit the point of feeling content. I hope you’re able to find more moments like that and tip the scale. I enjoyed hearing about the memories the story reminded you of.
Apologies for handing you yet another book to read, but I greatly appreciate that video. I’m a new dev and this is the first project that truly represents what I want to make, so seeing gameplay of that for the first time is very special to me. I felt you deserved a serious, heartfelt response and I just talk a lot.
Best of luck in your English course! You pronounced “inundated” correctly by the way.
that's helpful to know. do you mean the font letter spacing on-screen, or the pacing of the dialogue scenes being separate from the images? and which platform did you play on?
i didn't have time but i'd like to add a custom font when judging is over that should help legibility. it's currently using the default.
