I use Mac and I think I understand your issue. Your Mac is probably extracting the file for you and then sending the original to the trash.
1 . Go to your trash and see if the original is there.
2. Restore it, then right click and choose 'Open with' and extract the file.
3. After it extracts and you click on it your Mac will try to verify the file and might say its not safe to open. You will have to Right click and select 'Open'.
