Both are amazing ideas, however the Vermont theme is a problem because I simply couldn't find any winter assets. If I had winter asssets I have so many maps waiting in the queue.
But the Robot vault... That's incredible. How about a super-computer (AI maybe) that was a trusty companion to Seer at first but when the Seer died, the AI didn't like the way new Seer behaved and all of a sudden lost control and took over the Vault; with a bloody revolution?
One small thing about the timings. We are expecting a baby in a few weeks and I'm a bit occupied at the moment :P I'll try my best tho.
Cheers!
Hello everyone,
Thanks to suggestion of ElderLyons10 I decided to add in every vault my own story in order to bring more background as well as inspire GMs for their own games. Here you go:
Due to cruel experiments, the inhabitants of Vault 10 became morbidly obese. The only upside to their condition was that they required very little, if any, water to survive. However, their immense size rendered them almost immobile, and when the notorious Raider Band attacked the vault, the dwellers could do little to defend themselves. Unable to wield conventional weapons because of their swollen fingers, and incapable of running or hiding, they were massacred by the raiders. Cannibalism was common among the raiders, and after slaughtering the dwellers, they even resorted to eating them.
Despite the chaos, the raiders were unable to breach the innermost part of the vault, where the Seer’s office and correction facilities were located. Thanks to a backup fusion generator, the G.E.C.K. room remained untouched. The Seer, realizing the hopelessness of the situation after hearing the slaughter outside, chose to take his own life, sealing the G.E.C.K. room permanently with his password.
Unaware of the full story, the players join forces with the NCR to defeat the Raider Band, eventually succeeding. Once the NCR takes control of Vault 10, they gain access to the inner sections and discover the unused G.E.C.K. Using it, they cleanse the surrounding area and establish a new settlement called Vault Town. The transformation took six months, but the results were extraordinary. When the players return, they find a thriving town with some of the most beautiful trees they've ever seen in the wasteland. As a reward for their help in building the town, the players are granted a lifetime entry permit. The small BoS bunker outside the vault, which was found after clearing the raider base, remained sealed since none of the NCR experts could find a way to open it. Until one day, a very talented hacker (player) managed to open the door...
Hey buddy, first of all thanks so much sparing time to write this beautiful comment. I'm trying my best and I make my maps in a way I love to play with my players. Therefore I guess my efforts bear fruits :)
And since you find it useful, I'll definitely write "my own" story what I'm using them for so it can inspire GMs even more.
Thanks again, I'm so happy to read your comment. Take care!
Hey friend! First of all thanks a bunch for your support, I hope you and your players will have a blast
Normally I'm not making keys for my maps because I'm letting GMs free to use their imagination without limitations. However, since you asked I can describe from my own games:
1. At the south east corner, there's an elevator which raiders couldn't hack and open. Therefore, the whole underlevel is untouched and still functioning. However, after the upper floors were raided the Seer got a breakdown and after initiating the lockdown he killed himself, locking everything out. Unfortunately the people at the underlevel also couldn't exit and they died due to thirst.
2. Vault 74 was experimenting with immortality through chemicals and blood transfusion. So the 4 rooms at the south - south west are the laboratories where the R&D team was researching the chemicals and doing actual experiments. This is also the reason the elevator had super high security. Each lab from right to left has a different security level. The one at the most right has the lowest while the most left one has the highest clearance level. As you can see from the door lights, the only one open is also the most right one. All others require some good hacking or other skills to enter.
3. In my game, the players must enter each one of them and reach research notes in order to figure out how they can brew this experimental chemical. However when they enter the last room, they're gonna realize one of the workers locked down their computer (red light) and the only way to get into it is a super high hacking skill. If no one could, then they're gonna make only 1 dose of experimental drug because that locked computer was actually needed to learn how to duplicate the serum.
4. In my game experimental serum will grant 1 permanent Endurance SPECIAL if used on self. If they manage to hack the last computer, they're going to be able to make up to 4 doses (or how many players are in the game). Each serum can be used only once and if you use the 2nd dose, it will make you lose 1 permanent charisma because it will turn your skin greenish color; without giving anything extra.
5. If they can manage to enter the Seer's office, they can try to lockpick the safe behind the desk where all 4 scientists' access cards were kept. With these access cards they don't have to hack computers or doors. They open everything.
6. The room with glowing mushrooms has the containers that are required to brew the experimental brew. However the room is extremely radioactive. If they think there's an unlimited amount, nope. 99.9% of the ingredients are expired hence the high radiation because some of the nuclear materials even melted down. So they will find ingredients here enough for 1 dose only (which they can duplicate with a special technique)
7. The last room at the west is the Fusion Reactor. It's still functioning but due to lack of maintenance for 100s years it protected itself to work in backup mode, providing minimal energy enough for only life support units and computers.
I hope this will give you some inspiration. Sorry for a very short story but I don't want to spoil your imagination.
Take care!
Thanks a lot for your amazing comment my friend. Yes unfortunately the tech is not developed yet for us to have wonderful resolutions with small sizes. Webp format doesn't work due to high res and Jpeg is the smallest format I could find losing little bit of quality. Png format is 3 times bigger but the quality difference doesn't worth.
About the tile sizes, it varies in every VTT program but you can calculate roughly mid size maps should be 50x50 and large ones 75x75. Very rarely I make crazy 100x100 maps as well. You can understand which one is which from their file size honestly. When this doesn't help, I'm trying to make 1 tile the size of a "chair" in the map and it mostly works :)
And finally you're right, I'm receiving some good deal of Nuclear Winter map requests but the thing is I don't have winter assets :( once I'm able to find some I'll immediately start making them.
A bit of hype, next pack will present abandoned battleships which some of them might even be functional!
Thanks again buddy, I really appreciated your words!
Thanks a million for your support and beautiful words, buddy
You're right, cave encounters are not uncommon in Fallout games and I haven't thought about them before. I have some caves here and there but never as plain randos. I'll check my assets and try to figure out something. Maybe next small encounter pack, why not!
Thanks again!
i would love to however I can't find assets for Nuclear Winter or forests that fits post-apocalyptic scenes. The assets I found are mostly looking like fantasy maps of D&D. But that doesn't mean I won't try! Thanks for the inspiration. Once I finish my next pack I'll try some snowy themes, I promise!
Thanks a lot my friend. I'll keep in mind and try to make lower resolution versions of each map in the future. When I find time I can update also newest map packs with lower res so you can download them for free. I'll update you from this comment section so keep an eye.
About the pricing, I'm happy as long as my maps are used in games and people enjoys. I'm not trying to get rich but I want to keep this wheel turning so I can make more for people. Thanks for your awesome feedback!
Hey buddy. They are massive because there are many people which requests "Printable" sizes. What I'm doing in my games is to cut the locations into scenes or as you said downsizing them.
I'm trying to provide the highest possible resolution for my supporters and this is the downside of HD JPEG formats.
I'm still researching if I can find a better compressed format without losing the quality. I tried PNG and they were over 1 GB :D
I would think about making one actually. However, I've been avoiding Fallout canon story items for 2 reasons. One, if I'd have any problem with IP infringement issues and second I might not have all the assets to reflect the real location. I might, however, think of an "alternative" Vault 111, similar in shape but unique characters. I'll think about it.
Thanks you so much for your support and inspiration friend.
Hey! That's such a nice surprise!
Nope, you woud have no licensing issues with me. All my assets are also completely under commercialized license or free of licese so that's also completely sade. In contrary I'll be honored. If only you could mention me as you said in your video, I'd really appreciate it. Who knows, your fame can help me get more attention from public maybe? :)
Thanks again for writing and I wish you a great game! And don't forget to share your youtube channel with me. I'll sub immediately, can't wait to watch!
Take care.
Hey friend! First of all thanks for sparing time to write a beautiful comment, I really appreciate it. I'm glad you enjoy my maps 😊 I'm actually preparing an ambitious project next; a full starter pack for Fallout 2d10 (or any post apocalyptic theme). It will include a starting area; Vault 42 and then tens of mini encounter maps, the first settlement and a large ruined city. I don't have the ETA for that pack yet, since each map takes a horrendous amount of time but the Vault is completed 🤣
Thanks for following me and I hope to read your comments in the future.
Süper thanks for the support as well 🙏🏼
Hey friend,
First of all, thank you for the feedback. I've always been concerned about these tokens actually. I think the same, I'd not like to see these tokens as a DM if I don't want my players to encounter it. However, since I'm only using "Robots" I thought if DMs wouldn't like to use them as hostile tokens, they can always say these robots are deactivated/mulfunctioning. But, no excuses. I think I'm not goin to use them again in my future maps.
Thanks again and hope to hear more feedback from you.
P.S. I was just too afraid to make Prydwen because it's a canon vehicle in Fallout universe and I don't know if I have all the required assets for such a masterpiece. But you make me think about it now :)
Take care and enjoy!
Hey mate!
I'm a subscriber of one very good asset creator called https://www.patreon.com/leagueofraconteurexplorers/posts
My other assets are very old and I don't know where I got them to be honest. But I cannot sublicense them as I'm not the creator so I'd suggest finding the creators so you won't have any trouble.
Take care!
That's such an amazing message! Please do let me know here what are you thinking, what kind of things you have in your mind and I'll try to figure out. For a long time I couldn't craft new maps because of the real life work. But I really want to start back :)
Thanks again, that was wonderful to read your comment!
hey mate, please note that this image is 214 mb size which is extremely big for some computers. Not knowing your computer specs, it might be due multiple reasons:
- Your computer memory is not enough to handle. If so, let me know I'll email you a bi smaller version.
- The program you're using to open these JPEG files might be not compatible. Try Windows default image viewer.
- Your graphic card drivers might be outdated or too low memory to handle the image.
- Your computer might have an u know issue, in this case please try to open it in another device, even a phone should be OK.
Please let me know if you can't resolve the issue. I'll try to email you some different versions
hey friend, thanks a lot for your beautiful words. I'm using Dungeondraft because I have the ability to find tons of assets or create my own if I need to. It's a bit inconvenience to use since the UI is not the best and you need to deal with the lightning mostly manually but still a worthwhile choice. And the best function is that you buy onetime and you have the program and all future updates forever.
Thanks a lot for the comment!
When I created this map I thought it's so deeply corrupted and changed that it won't be possible for anyone to base this place after clearing out. If you believe there's a story point that might make it interesting, I can update this map and add. I would love to hear your story about that :)
