If he didn't care, I think he would have abandoned this project long ago, don't you think? Clearly, people liked it, loved it actually, and he took notice of that, and improved it. 

I agree with your views, but think of a large corporation creating something and charging $100 for it, then a few months later creating the same thing, but tweaking it to where it provides the same functionality, then asking you to rebuy it. It's the same concept, just scaled down to (well-made) Unity game.

I second this! Not a fan of paying twice, even if the price is low.
