Hey fellow Devtober Dev, I really enjoyed this one! These days if you're going to do a 2D plaformer you really need a hook, and danged if "You're a roomba on a trash planet" isn't a pretty good hook.

Pros:

  • Character and enemy designs are both simple and distinct.
  • Each enemy type's behavior is unique.
  • Boss fight is challenging without being repetitive or unfair.
  • The lamp guarding the cactus is very good.

Cons:

  • The controls are a little awkward on keyboard, specifically using Shift to scrub on a WASD set-up. I might suggest using W to jump, and shifting scrub to the Space Bar.
  • I would love more NPC dialogue or interaction text.
  • The backgrounds, while effective, are kind of drab. I'd love to see more color in the art design.

Bugs:

  • After I beat the boss the first time, I circled around looking for the exit. When I ended up back in the boss's area again, he had respawned. The second time around, I had already opened the exit, so I just ditched the boss rather than defeat him a second time. The problem is, the boss music stayed on even after I left. Even after reaching the End Game message, the boss fight music was still going. Maybe find a way to keep the boss fight music from playing endlessly if the player ditches the boss.
  • I wasn't able to close the game normally, I had to force quit it through Task Manager.
  • There was a quite a bit of screen juddering whenever I used a trash block as a platform.

Anyway, I'm gonna follow this project because I really hope to see more of it! Great job!

Thank you!  Finding any sort of critique is hard these days, so I really appreciate you spending the time to leave some feedback for my crappy project:).

I'm keeping this as future reference because you have a lot of valid critiques and bugs, so thank you again!
