What does it take to get your game featured or to appear in fresh games?

Like the title says - just wondering how to get more visibility within the itch site. Thx!

As far as I’m aware, the featured games in the front page are reviewed by some people internally, that decide they are good enough to show to everyone. There are no specific steps to follow to be featured there, just make a game good enough, and possibly make a post on “Release Announcements” and some social media and hope for the best.

There is no guarantee for a game to be featured, even if it’s state of the art.

I figured as much. But what about the fresh games? I used to think they were just recently posted games, but I believe they have to be going through some approval filter or something.

But what about the fresh games?

I don’t know for sure, but if next to “Fresh Games” you click the “View more ->” button, you arrive at this page: https://itch.io/games/newest/fresh

On the top of that page it says:

Browse a constantly updating set of projects sourced from a curated collections by our members. Check back for new additions.

Based on that I assume this also goes through a similar process like the featured games.

From my limited experience with itch.io, it’s just particularly good games that came out recently. If you want to game the system you either have to wait for a slow couple of days to release or… you know… make a good game. You know… The “easy” part… “Just make a game that people like.”

Sorry. There’s no way to brute force it.

But if you want to see the complete list of game that made it, I think old entries never get removed from the collection that feeds said list: https://itch.io/c/71828/interesting-stuff

THIS is very helpful. Thanks!

I’m glad you think so. :) I wasn’t quite sure if my post sounded too much out of context - because it builds upon what Dark Dimension already posted, but was posted about half a day later.
