Been playing the absolute hell out of this. Girlfriend says she cant understand what the hell im doing when I play lol, currently 12th place in the leaderboards but I feel I could get in the top 10 with some minor grinding, buying the full version asap, sent the link to a few of my friends to ^_^!! As for feedback, I was curious if the enemies have a pain state, sometimes I'm just dumping bullets into an enemy and I can't tell if my shots hit or not, and even just having a small chance for an enemy to not fire when hit for a couple milliseconds would add a lot to the whole gameplay loop. I think even with the base free version that has very few weapons and enemies you can get a whole lot out of the game, but some more weapons, runes, enemies, or even a different map could extend playtime by hours. Another thing I noted is the OST (I love it! I really hope y'all upload it sometime soon to grab) has no option to select or switch tracks to my understanding, this is a minor thing but having some sort of key to swap or skip over a track would be really nice. Some more general settings would be cool as well, keypad rebinds, more resolutions, maybe some accessibility functions to help make the game a bit more readable for people who are overwhelmed by the dithering filter? Just some random suggestions, food for thought. Overall- this is an amazing project and I think your approach to monetization is really novel as well, I casually used to study how altgames could be made sustainable and I think the idea of a limited shareware release and different tiers of a full release with extras depending on how much you can donate is quite creative. Amazing stuff!!!!

Hey Liziveth,

Thank you for the kind words and awesome feedback! We will take some of these options into consideration during our next build!

Thanks,

yooooo... this game ..

I only found itch.io today from some random youtube video but then I found Nightmare and immediately bought a copy ($3) because of the mad artwork and colours and description on the Nightmare page.

my review is this:

music: 9/10

graphics 10/10

story: 10/10

gameplay: unable to assess currently due to lag.

my PC is reasonably strong but this game is super laggy for me!

CPU: AMD Phenom ii x6 1100T

Ram: 16gb ddr3

GPU: 2GB sapphire 6950

windows 10

Smooth frames but pretty low framerate I estimate ~20fps but major problem is that  my mouse movement is about 25ms behind reality. I cant dodge or shoot for shit!

I cant find any graphics settings and I tried setting game priority to realtime on task manager.

Any other tips? I was really ready to love this game (I still plan on it!)

yooooo, thanks.

Hey Jqrd4n,

Thank you for the excellent feedback, our team really appreciates it!

Nightmare was tested on several windows hardware iterations but unfortunately not your exact setup. I think it could be the coroutines running for round monitoring and time controls are not as efficient as we would like.  When we cut a new build in the future, we will keep your hardware setup in mind for testing.

Thanks,

No worries guys,

tell you what, I should test the game on my brothers PC. I'll do this some day soon and get back to you. He has a slightly newer PC with an Intel structure.

Admittedly my graphics card is old af, and my CPU is very dated as well. The latest call of duty game will not even launch on my PC because this specific CPU has lost all supoprt by their engine. - just an example of gaming troubles I face these days. ..Built my pc at least 8 years ago.

I am guessing now that Nightmare is one of those games that LOOKS "retro" but is actually completely modern in the way it runs, therefore not actually being so "low bit" and lightweight as one might hope.

Also to revise my earlier review, when I said 25ms mouse lag, I really meant 250ms, as I was imagining about a quarter of a second. 25ms would be tolerable but my lag was not. It could even be slower than 250ms, I really can't measure it.

Anyway, congrats on having such an awesome game out. I'll be watching for updates over time. Cheers!

Hey Jordan,

Thank you for the further feedback and praise!

We are in the process of gathering spec to test for a later build - on the PC that you were having trouble running nightmare, do you mind sending us those specs for that PC?

Thanks,

Hey sorry for the laggy reply:

OS: Windows 10 x64

CPU: AMD phenom x6 1100T 3.3ghz (this is the component which I belive most likely to be the cause of poor gameplay, this cpu is getting old and not supported by some modern AAA games.)

GPU: 2GB AMD sapphire 6950

RAM: 16GB ddr3 (corsair vengeance)

MOBO: gigabyte ga-990-fxa-ud5

Hope that helps!

Hey just an update to my old review and specs. I bought a new computer and now Nightmare runs perfectly. I think it was just crappy 12 yearold hardware causing bugs. Love the game, it's so hard. There's no way to regain health, right?
