Hi, everyone,

Can anyone connect me with tools and resources for creating 8-bit music? Is there a virtual instrument plugin I can find or buy somewhere? I use GarageBand, but I'm also learning ProTools currently.

It would also be amazing to have something similar to the MIDI banks from 16-bit games like Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, that time period.

Any constructive feedback would help. Thanks!

  • Update: I found this: YMCK Magical 8-bit Plug  watch instructional video and link to download but after playing around with it for 5 minutes it caused my GarageBand to freeze up, which never happens even with a dozen tracks playing simultaneously with effects... I'll keep trying and see.

Cheers,

Rosko

Some standalone programs for making chiptune are:

Some VSTs if you want to use a DAW:

Couple more suggestions:

Famistudio - a DAW like version of Famitracker for those that don't enjoy the tracking format

Super Audio Cart - pricey, but well worth it, huge library of 16-bit & 8-bit samples from a bunch of different consoles, plus a robust engine to tweak and make your own.
