Leave your messages after the beep...

You've played through LONG HAUL 1983.  You've got your recordings.  Now's the time to drop those links, promote those podcasts, etc.

You can use this thread, or be bold and Post a new topic.

Hey SPC, I liked reading your game so much, that I've actually started creating a Video-Audio Playthrough found at https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLa3iwGDR8O13IWSHj60XgdbantBiT18zF

Wow!  Damn, I love so much about this -- the analog clicks and mixing, the moody synths, the fleeting reference to the "man in a suit" -- and truly can't wait to hear the next episode!

Thanks so much for sharing!

That's mighty kind of you, thank you most kindly ^_^ The rest of the playthrough is now online, hope it reflects well and while I don't reflect most of the more mechanical gameplay parts, that I didn't do anything wrong while playing =)

I was finally able to listen to the final episodes. This was all so so cool.

Loved that final call, and that sensitive moment on the hilltop (while Hitoshi Yoshinura played). Loved the sound design and attention to those kinds of details you added throughout the production. Really awesome!

Thank you again for sharing!

-Sean

PS: Your play through confirms what I saw in play testing: EVERYONE names their rig!

Larry Bash is at the wheel of his rig, battling sleeplessness, a broken foot, and a world in ruins. He keeps leaving messages for his aunt Teresa on her answering machine. Will he make it to the Little River Orphan Home to check up on her and the orphans in her care? If he gets there, what will he find?

This audio is Roy Blumenthal's play-through of Sean Patrick Cain's solo tabletop roleplaying game, LONG HAUL 1983. It's set in the year 1983, and something weird has happened.

Buy your own copy of this intense and enjoyable game by heading to https://spc.itch.io/longhaul1983.

Can't wait to dive into this, Roy -- especially after reading of your gnarly day one!  Thanks so much for sharing.

I think you might need to change the sharing permissions on the Google folder -- I wasn't able to access when I clicked the link.

Cheers!

Thanks Sean! Yup... I didn't realise that "copy link" wasn't the same as "grant access to anyone who clicks the link". That's fixed now, so anyone who clicks the link should now be able to listen to Larry's answering machine messages.

About ten minutes in, listening to lovely childhood memories of crocheting and peaceful sleep.  (Nervous for what's waiting for our narrator down the road!)

Got this game in the Palestinian Aid bundle and knew I had to try it. I've had a go at editing together my play through here:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/12bx_zLEKlErmYJFIVvYReoZgsgSV6M1_/view?usp=shari...

cw: swearing, grief, mention of car crash, falling/drowning (metaphorical), fire, isolation, depression, insanity, implication of suicides, animal death, nightmares, mention of alcoholism, parental death and daddy issues

Developer

Thanks so much for posting this!  Listening to it now, loving the vibe so far!

This was excellent and well acted… thanks for posting!

Just played this last week and managed to get the voice memos joined up and onto Youtube

(Apparently I am the exception that proves the rule with regard to naming the rig!)
Developer

So cool.  Thanks so much for sharing and posting this!  I'm listening to it, wearing a thick sweater, looking out my window at a rainy sky, and the vibe feels just about perfect.

I have a voice suited for silent movies, so I'm having to settle for text. I am doing "transcripts" for the calls, though, for anyone in the LH1983 fandom to read, too.

Here's the first one, and the fourth drops in like 4-5 hours: https://themaddestsailor.wordpress.com/2022/02/15/long-haul-1983-the-first-call/

Thanks so much for sharing & posting.  Excited to dig into this!

Let me know how you feel about it.

And, as someone who wrote it and is now reading it... do you think you'd have preferred to see the game play and the cards, or, as the author, you think just the transcripts is the best way to share the Long Haul experience with others?

Developer(+1)

I’ve seen both versions and I love both! (Sorry off that’s too squishy a response.)

I really enjoyed reading through your calls and trying to work out which cards may have shown up. I also love the idea that the prompts might disappear seamlessly into a player’s particular story!

Final call drops tonight in my last LH1983 post. Hope I did your game justice and that you enjoyed it.

Thank you for the experience. It was an awesome ride.

Developer

oh, thank YOU for sharing.

so glad you enjoyed the ride.

I JUST found out that I got this game through a bundle- although I couldn't help but buy a physical copy -and played through it in one sitting of about 3 hours. I was genuinely surprised by the outcome I got, so that was cool to experience. and I hope you enjoy listening to the recordings as well.

FYI, the recordings are meant to be a bit off-sounding, but I hope that that amplifies the experience, though:

Cheers! (And thank you for the interest and support!)

Can’t wait to dig into these recordings!

This game is an incredible experience.

I only made it 5 calls in, but I put the calls together in a compilation (warning, some bad language): https://www.dropbox.com/s/fgkjyqg31mu8u0u/LongHaulCalls.wav?dl=0. How cool to have an audio record of my playthrough! And to get to do a bit of improv in a solo game :)

Developer

Excited to listen. Thanks so much for sharing!

Only one call in and your playthrough is AMAZING. I'm in awe of how good your voice is. Do you do Voice Over work? Because your voice was MADE for it.

Wow, thanks! I've never done any professional voice acting but it's something I've always been interested in.

After listening to your whole playthrough, I genuinely believe that you would be Fantastic at it. Especially the last one? Chills.

I'm humbled, thank you for listening and for the kind words :)

Hi there! I just started a podcast and my very first episodes will be a playthrough of Long Haul 1983!

Bad news for you, though: it is in French. :( Still, in the off chance you or some future readers are French speakers, the first episode is at https://ours-solo.com/@ours_solo/episodes/long-haul-1983-episode-1

The final 2 episodes should be released in the following week.

Cheers for creating such a poignant game!

Developer

Thank you so much for sharing!  It's thrilling to hear someone digging into the game ... even if my lack of French language skills keep me from comprehending!

Wishing you the best of luck on the new podcast!
