Visual novel?

Hey there,

I'm a total novice to game development and looking into how to create my next project. It would basically be a game with mixed 2D exploration sequences and Visual Novel sequences where there's two character portraits and dialogue options. I know the 2D exploration is totally doable, but I'm unsure how to approach a Visual Novel in Superpowers. What would put me on the right track? Sorry if this is a basic question.

Hi!

The Superpowers RPG demo project might help, it has dialog boxes and 2D exploration. It's not quite what you're looking for but should be a good start to learn how to build your own.

(I'd love to have a native visual novel project type at some point too, so that it doesn't require any special coding, but I doubt I'll have the time to tackle it anytime soon so hopefully someone else in the community will take it up ^_^)

Hmm well the 2D exploration is out of scope of my Tome project right now but although TECHNICALLY it's a point-and-click engine one of its main features is a scripting language for visual novel style dialogs. As I mentioned in another thread it is currently between very difficult and impossible to distribute a project like this and provide updates so I'm hesitant to hand it out in such an early state but if you have a good idea what you're going to need out of it maybe we can hammer out the features you need from it and I can provide a starting point :0
