I seem to instantly lose, and I didn't see any hint/tutorial on it. Help?

theres  a tutorial in the zip thing before you launch the game,but basically some enemy shoot at your character(avoid),others summon crystal things(click to destroy them) left click on the bars at the bottom to attack with character,right click to use ability, left click on enemy to mark as keep alive 

(drill hp is also combat hp)

in the folder with the exe file, there is a picture file named COMBAT MANUAL.png - this kinda shows you.

thanks for the help with "drill hp is also combat hp" - took a long time to figure out how to add characters to my team.
