Right now I'm thinking a dark, more literal version of Rumpelstiltskin. I know, unpopular choice. But see how interesting it is to translate that name into a character...

You know the story: the Miller's Daughter makes a deal with a sketchy individual. What pushed her to do it? What if it's not as literal as we were lead to believe? What makes a monster? And how many ways is there for the story to end?

Along with writing, I can do some animations and sprites. I already started sketching and writing down some ideas. The (non horror) possible sprite artstyle:

Programming: we will need a mini puzzle for the straw-into-gold spinning. I'll leave it to you to decide how you want to represent that, to your preference. (For an example of minigame in Visual Novels, check in a gameplay of X-Note the choice between Telekinesis, Clairvoyancy and Telepathy)
