In this thread you can post your thoughts about the gameplay.

Your feedback can be about the money, balance, prices, radii, time and speed, demand and requirements.

If you have other, not stated, feedback don't hesitate to post it here.

Not a bad start, I like the vib, but I had genuinly no idea what I was doing, I put down a few block's then the game stopped letting me place them...

I know it a bit of a work around, maybe just push for some descriptions of the tile sets.

also not sure about the block placing itself, as the fact it was hovering above seems like a weird design choice, but maybe I just don't get it.

All in all keep up the good work :3

Hey NeonGoo,

thanks for your feedback. As you said it's more of a work around but we recognized that it's really important! We currently work on some first "tutorial" (so to say) instructions. Nothing too fancy - simply to get people to play the game without losing their money too fast.

And that is exactly what happened to you: You weren't able to place the rooms anymore because you had not enough money - at least we assume that because it happens to almost all play testers we were able to encourage to play locally.

The hovering was introduced for juiciness purposes but we are currently thinking about snapping it to the mouse position instead of slightly above the mouse position.

We try our best to make this game fun. And we really like to get your feedback. :D

Here are a few things I've noticed that are a bit.. off with the game?   There are also some suggestions.

  • On the Family houses, there is a requirement with a blue icon and I cannot figure out what it is asking after putting all non housing buildings but it's very much bothering me.
  • When placing or selecting buildings, the screen rotates on its own and it gets pretty annoying.
  • We need a way to hide upper floors while tweaking lower ones.
  • More recreation that brings in money instead of loses.  (Ex: Vending Machines, Convenience Store, Game Room.)
  • Little repeat animations such as kids playing in the park and people on their balcony would be cute.
  • A Tutorial
  • There are lots of blank buttons (I assume you haven't gotten that far)
  • I'm not sure if you wanted solely a puzzle-like game or a strategy game but financial events to keep the game more interesting.  Once you get a few floors, there are no money issues (I'm on floor 6)
  • A hallway type thing?  I know you can link a bunch of stairs but I'd like some sort of hallway to link stuff together.
  • Also, for extra space, maybe give apartments their own private yard or place?
  • Another class of houses would be nice.  Maybe for the rich?  It could require a pool and no lower classes on their floor or something like that.

Hey treebird,

thank you very much for your feedback. Since November 2018 a new version is available in which we were able to include most of your feedback.

The blue icon is most likely the demand for families which you can see in the upper-left corner. If the icon is displayed above the room you have no demand for families and have to pay for advertisement.

The other ideas will be included in a later version if we continue the work on Oddly Assorted. If so, then it will be in the midterm of the year.

Thanks again and I hope you had fun with the game.

Love the concept of the game, and it works a lot better than expected.

A few suggestions:

  • Ability to Rotate rooms as well as camera view so that you get more choice in how to place them.
  • Add prices above each room type to indicate how much they cost. Had to do a bit off guesswork to work out how much the cost.
  • What I assume to be a 'settings' button (gear wheel icon), doesnt work, not sure if this is a bug or just hasnt been implimented yet.
  • When placing stairs/spacer blocks, you have to click the icon in the hotbar each time. Would be nice if you could keep placing them without having to click it each time.
  • Ability to move the camera around/zoom in and out.
  • Speed x8 is a small issue. When in speed x8, I'm earning money faster than I can spend it, continuously building. If there were to be elements of the game that got out of hand quickly (random example: the house fires from Sims 4) it would reduce the impact of speed x8 as it would force the user to use the other speed modes.
  • Some sort of penthouse complex or something similar that takes up space on more than one floor, to add another dimension to the building puzzle. Again, this would only really work if apartments could be rotated.
  • Make higher class apartments more worthwhile. With all the extra rooms (gym, school etc) needed for the higher classes of apartment, they seemed to be losing me money instead of earning. I found that the easiest and fastest way to earn lots of money was simply to place 4 x Level 1 apartments, 2x Level 2 apartments and 4 stairs in the middle, and just do the same floor after floor. (Image of said layout)

Some things that @treebird mentioned that I agree with:

  • A way to hide upper floors to allow us to deal with lower floors
  • Recreational sections that bring in money depending on how many residents you have.
  • Financial events. As I mentioned before, I was earning money faster than I could spend it.

Overall, I really like this game, and see a lot of potential in it. Hope my feedback and suggestions are of any help to you. Keep up the good work!

Hey dcwatkins,

thanks for your feedback and sorry for the very late response. I just replied to treebird: we were able to include a lot of your feedback into our new version (released 30th Oct 2018). Nonetheless, the work is paused for now as we are occupied by another project.

The balancing and room diversity is just at the beginning and will be improved in (possible) upcoming releases.

We hope you had fun with the game!

And do you guys have a Youtube. I have been following the Astroneerteam for a while and just started to follow Satisfactory. Even with one or two vid about some 'behind the scenes' stuff would be awesome! Try to get a 'cheap' version out, give the game to some Youtubers and who knows... Might me a very nice 2019 for you guys!! Greets from Holland.

Hey Jake again,

thanks for your idea. Sadly we do not have any social media presentation because there was no initial plan to publish the game. Nonetheless, due to the immense positive feedback we are more than willing to continue the work sometime in 2019. (I can't guarantee that though!)

I'm really enjoying the game. I think it has a lot of potential.
Except for bugs, I'm going to reserve my input until I've had a little more time to play around with the game.

Thanks for making this! I look forward to future updates.

Developer

Hey madogy again,

Thanks for your positive feedback. We are glad you had fun playing Oddly Assorted and are thrilled about the interest in future updates. Sadly I have to disappoint you in this. As I replied to your bug report we are currently occupied by another project and will (most likely) come back to Oddly Assorted in the future (sometime 2019).

I like the game and im sure the finished product will be wonderful. I do have a few small problems. 1) to much repair! every 2 seconds i need to repare something. its annoying. Students are throwing parties every day.  2) the unlocking system through leases are confusing. Ill have enough corn to buy but it wont even give it as an option. 3)i had to turn on sound before i could get sound

Hi guys,

Glad I saved this link a while ago, let's jump in.

Allthough we gamers should be able to check all the keys and see what they do... I would like to see a page in the settings that sais Keys:  W,S and scrollwheel: move up/down, A, D, <, > : Rotate map. E: rotate while building. Shift: place more items. Perhaps a hint to this could be implemented in the tuturial.  <EDIT> This is all at the top of the gameplay page, raced right bye it to download the game. But if one makes this mistake.. who knows...

The double clicking to repair and destroy is pretty tedious, I would like to see a setting of 'one click action' or something like that... To bad if I destroy stuff without looking, my fault, should have been more carefull ;-)

As an older Tetris fan, love the challenge of placing the buildingblocks together.

The posts in here are a little old tho, any updates or plans for the future? Or working on other stuff?

GreatGame and I've only just started. :-) Cheers guys! (-;

Hey JakeSimmer,

I'm sorry for the late response. I haven't been on itch for a while..
I'm very glad that you like the game and that you have some good feedback for the game. We know that the game has its fair share of issues and a lot of missing features...

However, I'm very sorry to inform you that the game is not in development anymore... It was a student project after all and the idea of continuing development was never certain.. The team split up by now and I don't actually have contact to some of them anymore. We all work in seperate studios on other stuff now. I will change the page description to mention that as I honestly just forgot to do so when things changed

Thank you very much for the feedback though and I honestly wish I could continue working on the game but that's just not possible anytime in the forseeable future...

Thanks and good luck with everything.

Jake. ;-)
