Launches from Steam, but not from Windows ver exe

Hi there! I'm having the same problem as the person in this thread, but that one's a year old and seems to be unrelated to an actual software bug, so I'm opening a new thread.

I'm having an issue where I can't launch the program from the DRM-free download (Windows version); it will launch, but will register as a background process and never actually pop up. The Steam version opens just fine, however. It's worth noting that I've used the standalone version on another computer running the same version of Windows and not had this issue. I've also done a restart just to see if that might fix it, but no luck.

Computer specs for reference:

  • Windows 10 Home, 10.0.19045 Build 19045
  • Intel Core i5-9400F (6-core, 2.9GHz)
  • NVIDIA RTX 3060 GPU
  • 16 GB RAM
  • Desktop PC, 3 monitors

Obviously it's not a super pressing issue since I can still use the software from Steam, but I do prefer the standalone version because it works better with my workflow (easier to find and keeps me from getting distracted by my plethora of games lol), so any help would be appreciated! :)

Hi

If you want a non-Steam version, you can get it here: https://1bitdragon.itch.io/1bitdragon

Hi there! I do have the non-Steam version already, it just won't launch as described above. Any idea how to get it working?

If you check the Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del), do you see "1BITDRAGON.exe"?

There is a log file there C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\1BITDRAGON\1BITDRAGON\Player.log

Can you please send it to me:

Seems to have been fixed in the 4.1 update! Let me know if you'd still like the log file though!

Perfect. Thank you for the feedback.
