*Warning, gibberish below - feel free to skip to actual game info.
Little introduction about myself and how this game/idea came about: I am not an artist, not a writer, and know a bit about coding from my computer science degree. I went into computer science thinking about developing games, but ended up working for a software company and have been there for quite a while. I've been thinking about wanting to make games again, but motivation has been hard. Digging up an old laptop I found an RPG Maker project I had start years ago when I was back in school. After some thought, I decided I wanted to pick it back up. The story, writing and characters are mediocre in my opinion, but I want to follow through and finish it so I can say I made a game! And the RPG Maker UI seems much easier to use then coding everything from scratch for a first project. Also decided to post here in hopes that it will keep me motivated in a way.
On to the game info!
Game Engine: RPG Maker MZ (Partially started in RPG Maker VX Ace; will be bringing useable assets over)
Genre: Horror, 2D, pixel, RPG (Inspired by the usual RPG Maker Horrors: Ib, Mad Father, Witch's House, Corpse Party, Ao Oni, etc)
Story: A group of friends mysteriously end up in what appears to be a decrepit and cryptic house of horrors.
Characters:
Left to right - Kyran, Ayona, Rurik, Naia
(RPG Maker VX Ace ver.)
Screenshots from VX Ace:
Currently working on:
- Bringing over useable VX Ace assets
- Cleaning and combining VX Ace tilesets
- Remaking existing maps in MZ
- Remake existing events in MZ
Possible future considerations (aka once i make decent progress and if the game garners interest):
- Collaborators
- Artists
- Original sprites, portraits and tilesets would be cool.
- Writers
- I have a general story and path, but it could definitely be edited and refined. I'm also terrible at dialogue.
- Musicians
- Spooky music and sound effects!
- Artists
tl;dr
I'm going to slowly attempt making an RPG horror game. It'll be a long process between my irl stuff going on, but I want to experience the game making process and be able to say I made a game!
