It was a known glitch that was going to be fixed in v0.3 but sadly wasn't due to the project being place on indefinite hiatus/abandonded. The softlock occurs because the chute was not supposed to be walkable, and by heading up the chute you don't trigger the 'landing' event trapping you inside the chute. If you walk to the left upon falling to the bottom, you can escape this area, just don't press up. Make sure to investigate the ash pile after falling for a Flame Feather consumable item before walking left.
