Capture ship

One of the most nice things to do in a pirate game is to board and capture enemy ships. It would be nice if we could do it on this game

Developer

Hi!

This was possible in Sid Meiers Pirates (the main inspiration, obviously) but it lead to a player having a large frigate (the second best ship in the entire game) 10 min after starting a new game. I didnt like that as you lost one main driver/goal in the game (to get a nicer ship).

If you have any ideas on how aquiring ships can be made more fun (but still hard) please let me know! Otherwise accumulating wealth and then buy a ship seems pretty good for me (it also makes gold more useful, it was pretty pointless in "Pirates!" except for buying pices of maps and other trinkets)

I have some ideas. Here we go:

"Named ships" from famous pirates could be captured and used, as long as  it would be harder to win the battle if we compare with normal ships. Some requirements could also be implemented to make it more fun like the need to win the battle over a melee fight and at the same time don't damage the hull more than X%. The player could use the ship on his own fleet.

Normal ships could be captured for profit only, to be sold for a small amount of gold if we compare the sale price from a ship we bought and sold, but at the same time, to be able to sell the ship, it would need to be 100% repaired, so if the player damage the hull to much, it would not render him profit, so he would need to capture the ship taking care to not destroy/damage to much it. If a ship is not worthy to be sold, the player could choose to dismantle it and try to salvage few good boards that could be sold on the market or even used to repair his own ship.

Boarding a boat bigger the the one we have should be hard with the difference of crew number no ?

For the money the objective for having a lot in pirate! was to stash it in you secret cave (I really like seeing the amount of gold getting bigger and bigger) for you retirement, so maybe adding a way to "invest" it like buying land and why not build stuff on it (plantation, manor, slave/servant) and the costly maintenance. Of course pirate can't be officially owning land so we have to hide/stash somewhere for not looking kilos or tons of gold if we lost or ship (unless the gold in game is stored in a magical place :p)

As for selling boarded ship it should be possible only on some pirate shipyard because sincevyoi didn't have it legally you don't have a paper that prove you the owner, at the difference of buying one.

Maybe add some upgrade that you can buy for the boat like in the recent sid meiers pirate .

Buying the rank when we evolve for a nation. The higher rank the more we need.

Some interesting ideas. You can already get estates though.

There is already upgrades for the ships. Check shipyards in ports.

You already rank up with nations. You can bribe them to rank up faster. (rank bonuses are not in the game yet though, other than getting estates at noble ranks).

For estates it's not just pieces of lan ? I was more thinking of investing innthes land like adding a manor  , make plantation, buying slave/worker etc.

For the rank maybe instead to have it automatically (at least for noble one) you have to wait that it's trigger but you also have to pay a big fee for being it granted.

I admit I didn't think to check for upgrades for ship 馃槄
