Hello and welcome to NaNoRenO 2024! If you have any questions about the rules to the game jam, feel free to ask them in this thread.
Hello! 💛
I have a question regards of the usage of assets:
For NaNoRenO I’m planning on creating another side story of my passion project “Under The False Sky” - for that I would like to reuse the same UI throughout the entire series. (For consistency etc.)
The assets aren’t really “publicly available” to use, but they weren't made specifically for the NaNoRenO entry either.’
Would I still be allowed to use them?
Here is the link to the mentioned side story, where the UI already appears in:

(If I were to make alterations of the UI or adjustments I would of course do it within the time frame of the jam.)
I hope I conveyed what I meant appropriately.
Best regards,
Ann
That's a bit of a grey area. If you want to be entirely strict about the rules, premade assets are out unless they're CC. However, you are absolutely allowed to update your game afterwards with your GUI (which is gorgeous, BTW!), so nothing's stopping you from using a placeholder of the same size for the duration of the month.
Ah, I see.
Well, that's troubling... Since this means I would have to make an entirely new UI. I really, really don't want to use some basic place holder just to update in the end and have people play with a low quality UI first. I would like to present a "finished produkt" at the end of the Jam after all...
(More work for me.. yaaay. Crunch, here I come.)
Would it be alright if the UI is similar to the one I made for the Winter VN Jam entry, to at least have consistency within the UI as well as to have less more work?
Hello! Are fangames of non-indie IPs (using some assets ripped from the game) allowed? Thank you! I assume the OG game’s assets aren’t allowed at all but hrtihdfuweshfidsh i dont wanna figure out BGs or OSTs, ofc if it’s not allowed then it’s not allowed :p but i was wondering if since the assets are from a non-indie, there’s some wiggle room?
Fangames are allowed, as long as you create the assets yourself (like redraw sprites) or use creative commons assets (there's a big list here including music). Using any assets from the original game is not allowed.
I'm thinking of adding an element using ChatGPT - this wouldn't be used to replace writing but only very minimally to allow players to choose what they say to characters. Would this be allowed in the rules? It isn't using generative AI to replace handwritten dialogue, but just using it to allow an experience that wouldn't be otherwise possible.
Put another way - 99% of the game is handwritten, and the only 1% by AI is to enable greater player agency with their dialogue responses.
