Is AI Runner safe? Kaspersky doesn't trust it.

Hi,

Just checking: downloaded AI Runner from Capsize Games. When I installed it my Kaspersky protested because it showed behaviour that was typical of malware.  How safe is AI Runner? Why does it do that Kaspersky (and probably other PC protector programs) raises the alarm?  How safe is it to ignore this alarm?

Thanks!

Hi @gratefullyscrutinise thanks for the report and your concern -

There is no known maleware packaged with the software. It is bundled using pyinstaller on github with docker and pushed to itch. All of the code is opensource and available for review here - you’re free to install from source instead if you are able.

I haven’t heard of any recent info of anti-virus or maleware until your report. However in the past I believe Avast was causing false positives.

You should be safe, however I’d like to look into this further and contact Kaspersky if need be. What is the exact error you’re getting? Would you mind posting a screenshot here?

Here the warnings I get from Kaspersky and Microsoft Defender.

Thank you for these screenshots. I’m doing research now. I bam confident that this is a false positive (I see people getting the same warning when installing docker for example).

I will perform some tests and reach out to the Kaspersky team. Once I have this cleared up I’ll put out an announcement. I had to deal with the same issue with avast about a year ago. Thanks again for the heads up.

You can see discussions here for the same thing with flight simulator. It seems that is a common false positive. As I said I’ll dig in more though.

Thanks!

From the reactions what went wrong with Flightsim, I can't judge if the same could be true for AI Runner:

Personal observation: the executable is just over the size limit for Open Tip (Kaspersky automated validation testing tool). So it’s probably best to follow up with them using a manual ticket process and identify this as a false positive.

Will do thanks
