As discussed with DruidicHabit on Reddit, here’s the adventure I had in the Veiled Peaks!
To give you some context, I’m still relatively new to solo roleplaying. I’ve been interested for a long time but just recently went all in, so to speak. All that to say I’m still trying to get my sea legs.
I backed the recent crowdfunding for the french translation of Into The Odd, so I wanted to use that system. In the end I used Cairn for the more fantasy feel. I’ve also been using FORGE for the oracles and travel procedure.
Here’s how it went so far:
Kanno was an explorer in the veiled peaks but, after an event I haven’t defined/discovered yet, he was « adopted » by the dwarfs of the mystala temple (hex 3518). It’s been 8 years. Recently, a mysterious disease has started to take the lives of many dwarves. Kanno has been tasked with finding someone or something to understand and heal them.
Going southwest (hex 3418), he met a halfling named Seraphine before arriving at the fort (more on her later). There, the deserter leader ambushed him. The leader was killed and the rest of the deserters fled.
In hex 3519, while camping near the stones, Kanno spotted cultists coming to sacrifice 2 people, one of them being seraphine! He dispatched the cultists promptly. Seraphine then asked him to escort her and her companion to Idarthorpe.
There, Kanno met Barnaby who told him the village was struck by a sickness similar to the one the dwarves seems to suffer (that part was very cool because I didn’t read anything about that when I imagined the illness story for the dwarves!).
Good old Barnaby sent Kanno on a quest to find the house of a witch who might know more about the disease in the northern mountains (hex 3719).
On the way, Kanno and Seraphine (who decided to join him in his adventure) took the opportunity to kill the giant rats for the bulletin board quest.
They killed the rats no problem. The whitch house was half burnt but they found her journal which is written in runes. They then get it back to Barnaby.
And that’s more or less where the story ends for now :p! I guess we’ll have to see if the witch journal holds all the answers!
I think that’s the most fun I’ve had solo roleplaying since starting the hobby and it’s in no small parts due to the cleverness of the zine which allows true exploration while having a coherent « external » context! I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Kanno and for the zine :D!
Cheers!
